ucas application to pharmacy/ foundation year?

I’m looking to apply for pharmacy at uni but my predicted grades are not quite good, I think I was predicted a C or D for my biology and chemistry and I need an A or B in both.

My teacher suggested doing a foundation year in pharmacy. So I want to ask how to apply for one and the requirements. I believe you have to contact the unis if you want to do a foundation course and if you meet their requirements, I’m not entirely sure. As well as what’s the difference in doing a foundation year than doing the course normally from 1st year?

I hope I’m not too late to apply :frown:

hi! you apply in the same way in terms of ucas but when you're picking your options you would pick the option that says 'pharmacy with a foundation year'. I'm pretty sure you don't need to contact the unis. The requirements are different depending on the uni you're applying to (but they're normally lower than the standard offer of AAB or ABB). The ones i've seen ask for 3 Cs. A foundation year will take you 5 years to complete but the normal course is only 4.

Hi,

Im glad to hear that you’re interested in pharmacy - I’m currently a first year student at the University of Bath at the new Plymouth campus.

They’re starting a new MPharm course next year with a preparatory year which will allow you to enter the course from year 1 once you have completed the preparatory year.

Here is a link to the details:

Good luck with your studies and your application!

Do you think you'll do better than your predicted grades? You could apply for the foundation year, work as hard as you can, and apply for the standard pharmacy course through clearing if you manage to get the grades
