Masters ?

Hi - I’m in my second year of a bsc criminology and policing degree at Roehampton but I really want to do a politics masters at kcl? obviously its early days and I havent gotten any of my year two essay marks back yet but last year I averaged a 75% so a first (but obviously first year doesnt count towards the final grade) and I’m hoping for similar marks this year. Would anyone know if this is something i should even bother with? I will probably apply next year anyway but i REALLY want to do the politics and contemporary history masters at kings….one of my biggest regrets is not doing a politics or history degree😭 i really do enjoy policing though. The requirements say the undergrad degree needs to be in a relevant area then says social sciences which i assume criminology and policing falls under but i also have had some experience volunteering for bhf and for the labour party. I plan on doing more work for the labour party in the new year as i am a member. Any other suggestions on what i can do to make up for my undergrad degree being from roehampton? the course i do there isnt bad by any means but im worried the unis reputation itself will stain my application and get me rejected at the first hurdle. It also talks abour career intentions and as it stands ive wanted to work in policing and with domestic abuse victims since i was about 14 but I have also been massively into politics since i was about 12 with brexit and Im not sire what I would do in politics. One of the modules in the masters is blair to brexit and i would pay £15k just to do that module😭 im so passionate about politics and specifically new labour i am willing to do anything to help myself get on that course

I moved from a worse university (UK) undergrad to a masters at a better uni (UK) than KCL. I have friends in my course that come from Oxford, UCL, Yale, Bocconi, Science Po, Harvard and more, and none of them have ever made me feel less than. Once you’re around a good group in your course, you’ll realise that only people in sixth form and bachelor student really make you feel **** about your uni, but mature and senior people who will give you the jobs and opportunities don’t give a damn.

The only thing stopping you is yourself. Perfect your CV and Personal Statement over the next few weeks (make sure you write one day, then leave it for a 3-4 days, then go back. You’ll learn and see whats wrong).

If I was you, I’d start looking for scholarships for masters, especially in the EU (like at Bocconi, Science Po or Uni of Leiden) as they are 2 years = longer time to find internships, networking and figure out what you like.

thank you! I already know tht i want to do policing post grad and its only this specific course im looking to do because it is genuinely just something im so interested in…once ive done 20 odd years in policing id like to be almost a government advisor in regards to policing and thats why i want to do politics masters (aside from the fact that i am heavily interested in politics and a member of labour….) and also because you cant necessarily be extremely political when youre a police officer. im just worried that i wont get onto the course because id be coming from a very low ranking university and kings is one of the better ones LOL unfortunately theyre the onlt uni with the course and modules id want to study. Im good at my course and my A-Level grades were ACD so not great but also not bad by any means just a bit worried 😭 i just want to do that course so badly it is genuinely one of the most interesting things ive ever stumbled across theres a whole unit on tony blair to brexit wnd anything new labour is my forte and then post new labour im old enough to remember myself and i just would love to do this course😭

Your A Levels are irrelevant to a masters application, your bachelors are important.
You won't know how it will go until you apply, stop worrying and apply.
