Marks & Spencer Shoplifting

I was caught shoplifting, but after being confronted by the staff, I immediately paid for all the items I had not yet paid for. The staff then took my photo and informed me that I would be banned from entering the store in the future. They also mentioned that the CCTV system would capture me if I attempted to return.
This is my first time doing something like this, and I won't attempt to justify my actions. However, I do feel deeply regretful for what happened, and I understand how wrong it was.
I would like to ask:
What is the usual duration of such a ban from Marks & Spencer in cases like this?
Will my photo be linked to the CCTV system, and could it be used to monitor my future visits to any Marks & Spencer store?
If anyone can give me an answer, I'd be very grateful
if you had money to pay for the items, couldn't you just have not shoplifted then? its 2024 almost 2025. they are going to notice any person trying to shoplift. smh.

They probably intend the ban to be indefinite for that M&S. The picture will be used by the security for that specific store, although they may share it with other nearby businesses if they are part of a group of businesses that co-shares such information (common in e.g. shopping centres), although you won't necessarily be banned from those businesses they probably will keep a close eye on you.

I doubt they will have any kind of fancy automated facial recognition software at M&S so it will be down to you being recognised on camera by a person who has seen the picture in their control room.
