Extension for university coursework

Does your uni , count working days for coursework extensions or just the days . Example, a 5 day extension that was due in the 10th. Wondering if it's working days to hand in Tuesday or hand in Sunday .

In these days of online submission of coursework (as opposed to physically handing in pieces of paper at an office) I would imagine that a 5 day extension would mean calendar days and not working days.

If in doubt, check with your departmental admin staff. In particular, don’t assume that the applicable date is the one most favourable to you!

Hi there,

I think that it would depend on your university. One of my fiends got an extension the other day and because of how Christmas falls, they get extra time after Christmas because only working days were counted.

However this may be different at your uni so I would check with them as if it is calendar days, you will not get any extra time if you did not know this. It should be fairly easy to ask the help team at your uni for this, or just assume that it is calendar days and hand it in then if nobody knows the answer to this.

I hope this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.

Hi!
As far as i'm aware a 5 day extension refers to 5 calendar days, so your deadline would become Sunday. However, I recommend contacting your university admin or academic tutor as this may differ from university to university, and they will be able to provide specific advice.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

Hi there,
Whether your university counts working days or calendar days for coursework extensions typically depends on the institution's policy. In many cases, extensions are counted as calendar days, meaning a 5-day extension would include weekends.

For example, if your assignment was originally due on the 10th, a 5-day extension would make it due on the 15th, regardless of whether it’s a weekday or weekend.
However, to be sure, I recommend checking your university’s specific guidelines or contacting your module leader or the student support team for clarification. It’s always better to confirm to avoid any confusion.

Best of luck with your coursework!

Thanks & Regards,
