hey! it depends a lot on what school you went to, as gcse grades are contextualised. and still, gcses are just a part of the application - if you think you can excel in other areas then its definitely worth a try. i was also worried about my gcse grades but have just done an oxford interview for a subject which i got a 6 in at gcse! so, gcses are not the be all and end all. let me know if you want me to expand on any of this.

Oxford, I see - what were your other grades GCSE and Predicted if you don’t mind sharing?

gcses were 9988887766. so i got my worst grade in the subject im applying for at uni! i'm applying with achieved grades which are A*AA. i should also say i am a contextual applicant and went to an above average performing state school.

my advice to you which i wish i could've given myself is honestly to just try and leave the gcse thing in the past and put everything into your a-levels. oxbridge isn't looking for anything except the potential to excel. get some interesting supercurriculars under ur belt, work for top predicted grades, and you'll have as much a chance as anyone, promise!

Something to consider: Oxbridge grade your performance against the performance of your school. That said, it's one option out of five- why not take a shot? A weaker performance at GCSE can easily be remedied by a good interview and admissions test score
