Predicted grade

Hello everyone

i have a question, i currently study A level psychology and sociology at college and will be given my predicted grades for these two subjects, however, i am also retaking a level politics independently since i got a c in it last year but my tutor told me she cannot give me a predicted grade for this subject so my question is will universities care/reject me because i only have two predicted grades despite my tutor saying she will include a level politics in my reference and mention that she expects me to do well. I wanna know in particular how kcl, ucl, queen mary and soas would feel about this as these are the universities i want to apply to. (btw im applying for international relations)

in my opinion, it's definitely not impossible if other parts of your application are exceptionally strong. as long as you've got a back up option or your not super set on going to university this coming year, it's always worth a go.

i wonder if you could talk to someone else in your college about the politics predicted grade situation. i have a friend who is also retaking independently, and he was able to get a predicted grade for this ucas (so its not like its against the rules!). i think it would definitely work in your favour if you were able to get another predicted A, since most candidates will be applying with AAA or higher for unis like ucl. if all they can see is your C in politics, they have no quantitative evidence to suggest that you can do any better this year if that makes sense.

are you a contextual applicant?

yes i am a contextual applicant. And if I’m being honest i think it’s a problem with tutor rather than the college since i also know people who attend my same college and are getting predicted grades for subjects they’re sitting independently, i’ve brought it up to her many times and have suggested sitting a mock, i’ve even given the politics teacher an essay which i believe he’s totally forgotten about. My tutor is very dead set on including it on my reference rather than giving me a predicted grade, she’s also doing this for her other tutee’s i’ve mentioned it’s not ideal but i don’t know if she’ll budge. i’ll try mention it again but im a little scared🫡

i would maybe go to ur head of year and ask if there's any way round it? obvs a bit awks for u and ur tutor but i think it would be worth it if you could manage a predicted A. i think it just wont look great if you don't meet the entry requirements for the course, they might end up rejecting you before even reading your teacher reference or anything like that. wishing u good luck with it all!
Just ask your referee to include a comment that they can’t provide a predicted trade for your retake subject as you are retaking it independently with tutoring.
