What universities should I apply for based on my presicted grades?

So I'm going to be applying very soon for Biomedical Sciences at university. My predicted grades are ABD, (Biology, History Physics). So I don't know whether I should apply for places with BBB, BBC, or higher or lower. What do you suggest is the maximum entry requirements I can apply for while still having a chance of being accepted with my predicted grades?
Go for two higher two just right so that would accept equivalent to ABD and then 1 below that would deffo accept u. Keep in mind clearing is always an option it’s not as daunting as it seems xx
Hi, I was predicted similar grades and received all my offers - however, I did receive contextual offers for all, for example Lancaster gave me BBC from AAB. You should search what quintile your area is in and see if you could get contextual based on area or if your secondary school/ college performs below the national standard.
I think you should go with some aspirational choices since most unis want B or above in biology. You should read into the requirements for universities carefully, some require chemistry but since you're still doing a second science you should be okay !! I couldn't tell you which unis would be best for you to apply for but I hope you find something that works for you 🙂

Yeah, my area is quintile 2 so I'm pretty sure id be eligible? If so, how do I apply for contextual offers? is it automatically done by universities when looking at my area, or do I have to apply specifically for contextual offers? And also what entry requirements should I look at if contextual offers apply to me?

The contextual offer is automatically done after you send off your application. If you search on the universities website or even on the course page entry requirements it should specify contextual offers. They usually mention how many grades lower they could offer with contextual and some also offer a contextual offer checker 🙂 Some unis usually offer a grade or two lower but it really is individual to each uni

I would also like to mention IBMS accreditation if you do not know about it already. This accreditation is necessary to go onto become a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and work in NHS labs. I recommend applying only for accredited unis and these can be found on the IBMS website. Just thought id let you know just in case !!!

Yeah, luckily my teacher mentioned all the IBMS stuff to me, so I won't make mistakes that some other people make. Also, regarding contextual offers giving lower entry requirements, me being predicted ABD confuses me, since it's a rare combination, so I don't really know what contextual offer requirements would apply to my combination of predicted grades, if you know what I mean.

Yeah i'm not 100% sure myself. They may reduce an entry requirement from 112 tariff points to something like 96-104 or even lower. Since your predicted tariff is 112 (ABD and BBC is equivalent) you could apply for something that might have 120-128 points for requirements as your aspirational. The first reply in the tread suggested 2 aspirational, 2 on target (BBC) and 1 lower. I think your grades are good and a good personal statement will make you even more desirable, maybe you could do some lab experience days if there are any coming up at a uni near you too. 🙂

Okay, thank you so much for the help 🙂. So just to make sure, you think it's worth applying for ABB and AAB universities for my aspirational ones, ones with the same UCAS points as I'm predicted, and one slightly below?
No problemo 🙂 I'd definitely go with an ABB or two for your aspirational choices if I were you 🙂
Hey there!
LJMU offers a BSc in Biomedical Sciences, which is accredited by IBMS. We also offer a BSc Applied Biomedical Sciences, which gives you regular NHS lab practice throughout your degree. The accreditation means that the modules on this course are in accordance with the IBMS requirements for a Biomedical Science qualification, and you can also join the Institute as an eStudent and have access to their resources!

I would greatly recommend looking into this, as our entry requirements are BBC-ABB (112-128 UCAS points), with the only subject requirement being either Biology or Chemistry at A-level.

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science | Undergraduate course | Liverpool John Moores University

Thanks,
Jorja (LJMU Student Rep)
