Interruption of Studies - Tution Loan

This year I started MSc Conversion degree. Due to mental health reasons, I want to interrupt my studies, however, despite talking to the university and Student Finance England, I am still confused of the financial implications regards the tuition loan as I get contradictorary information from both sides or I am just not understanding correctly.

If I interrupt my studies and I need to repeat the 1st term (as I haven’t done my assingments), I understand that I would need to pay again for that period. Currently, I have a postragduate student loan but I am guessing they wouldn’t pay for me to repeate the term and I would need to pay from my own money, is that correct? That is what I understood from Student Finance England, however, my university said that the Student Finance England would make again the payment on September and I wouldn’t need to pay from my own money so now I am very confused.

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Are you looking to suspend for the rest of the 24/25 academic year and then begin again in September 25 or are you planning on returning prior to this? Thanks, Jason

I would return on September 2025 and I would need to repeat the first term as I won’t be able to submit the assingments to complete the modules (cut of period of interruption of studies before I would be liable of 50% of annual fee is 05/01/2025).

Thank you, Jason

Thank you. We would need the university to send us over a 'suspension' to block any further payments. If you're continuing with your first year you wouldn't receive any funding for the first term unless you were applying for CPR: Compelling Personal Reasons to see if you're eligible to claim back a year of study. When is your next payment scheduled for? Thanks, Jason

Thank you, Jason, for your reply!

My next (2nd) payment is in the end if January. If I would interrupt, I would do it before the next payment.

When could I apply for CPR and know if I can get the finding to repeat the first term? Otherwise, I think I would need to withdraw from university as I don’t think I would be able to cover the term myself.

Thank you. You can send this evidence when you reapply. If you are looking to suspend for the rest of the term and this would be prior to the payment being released I would advise contacting us on 0300 100 0031 we'll be able to block these in the meantime (if you are wanting). Just to avoid these being paid to you incase the university sends over the 'change of circumstance' and it's not processed in time. We can also assist there with any further questions. Thanks, Jason
