Extracurriculars for economics

Hii, I am a Y12 student, studying econ, maths, further maths, and chemistry. I am hoping to apply to top unis like LSE, Oxbridge, etc. so i was wondering how important extracurriculars are for this course, and roughly how much i should be doing. I only do karate, and charity volunteering, but i have many other supercurriculars, but do i still need to be doing more extracurricular activites? Thank you.

Super curriculars are far more important than extra curriculars for any universities, but particularly the top ones. They won’t be that interested in what you do outside of academics in your personal statement - what they’re looking to see is intellectual curiosity, an understanding of the subject and demonstration of the skills needed to study your course. These are best demonstrated through super curricular activities such as wider reading, essay competitions, work experience etc.

No, random extracurriculars are of limited value for applying to UK unis. They would usually just be something you mention in a single sentence at the end of your PS, if at all. Specifically relevant extracurricular activities (i.e. so called "supercurriculars") are of much more relevance and are what you should focus on (note this also includes wider reading in your subject - which can be the entirety of the supercurricular activities you do!).

Also remember that an economics degree is not an "investment banking training programme" so focus on economics and not financial services professions related material.

Okay thank you so much for the advice! I have been doing a lot of supercurriculars like essay competitions, UKMT maths challenge, and i've been reading a lot of economics books, so I'll continue doing those.
