I've applied for Fashion Journalism at LCF and Journalism on LCC. Haven't heard anything yet, but if they give me an offer then my taking it up largely depends on: a) If I get any more offers from my other university choices. b) The possibility of living in halls (I already live in London)
Is it completely out of the question that they'd let me have a place in halls? Can anyone shed any light on this?
Right, so.. Im looking for a uni experience. I want to make friends, have fun and hopefully have the best 3 years of my life. I have a boyfriend so no, im looking for the 'typical uni experience' in that sense. I just want to have an enjoyable time. At UAL this is out of the picture; right?
It isn't out of the picture at all. Of course you'll have fun and make friends and have a good time, but in terms of it being a really campus-y, closed knit community... it isn't going to be like that, obviously, because it's slap bang in the middle of London.
No, I think I'll go to UWE instead. I already live in London, and the fact that I won't be able to live in halls/will be in the place I've lived my whole life for at least the next 3 years will be pretty galling i think.

True fax. Although I live in London and I still ended up moving out anyway. You could try sticking it out at home for a month at most and then getting a place in halls, people move out all the time and pretty much as soon as term began there were adverts for people wanting to move out and rooms becoming available.
LCF is just a better place than London Met to study things like journalism, if only because of the connections and facilities Arts London has on offer.
London met are in debt apparently and UAL are rumoured to be taking them over. My boyfriend goes to London met and told me about it.
Could you possibly elaborate on this? I find this unusual, given that UAL are currently in the process of investing a considerable amount for the new CSM complex that's due to open in 2011. UAL has noted the current recession and is trying to improve its own departments, let alone any takeovers. My tutor (who I remain in regular contact with) has not mentioned this. Then again, we shall see.

I said it's been rumoured. Rumoured through the London met students as to whats going to happen, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Yes, I acknowledged that it was only a rumour, I was just curious as to whether you knew more about it. - I'm sure the journalism students at LCC will cover this via Arts London News (since they actively interview senior staff at UAL) when and if the rumour is proved to be true.

Yeah, well, If I hear anything from the BF I'll let you know. He thought the debt was just a rumour, till alot more people began talking about it last week sometime.. Don't know what they'll do to the people who've put it as their firm this year!

After doing a quick search using Google, I came up with this BBC article:
I honestly don't know, hard to say at this point. I'm sure London Met is considering all of its options at the moment. Reading the comments is saddening, especially the students that are currently studying, such as your boyfriend. I hope a viable solution to this problem will happen soon. No mention of any takeovers or partnerships (or UAL, in particular). I will also relay any news on UAL's stance, if any. I still have friends that study at CSM/LCF, including my tutor. They haven't even uttered a rumour of any possible takeover. I'll speak to my friends over the weekend, one of them works in the Student Union.
I wonder if the students in the London Met sub-forum on TSR have discussed this?

Maybe, everytime I've been onto the London met forums though Ive just found people slagging the uni off, haven't visited it since as I was applying there! Well, my boyfriend said it was just rumoured UAL might take over or the goverment will help the uni. It is very worrying, especially for those who are starting in September!
I'll have a look around, please keep me posted if you hear anything!

Yes, I glanced over the sub-forum for London Met just now and encountered that childish mentality already.
I agree about new students. Hopefully a decision will be made before they enroll in September.
