Forensics medical science ?

The university of Bradford offers forensics medical science undergraduate? And covers pathology and biomedical units? Should I still go med school to be a pathologist or can I just get a masters in it and then try get a job at the placement ?
Hi there,

In most instances, you will need a medical doctorate to become a pathologist, meaning you need some form of medicine degree. You could always research post-graduate medicine courses if you really want to take this forensic course, as they are usually 2-4 years rather than 5 (duration depends on the University).

Please take into account that after your medical degree, you also require further training to become a pathologist, so it's quite unlikely that you will be able to get into a pathology career without being a medical doctor first and doing X more years of training in pathology - I urge you to research the requirements for these careers to see what is feasible and what isn't

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Hey @cee278 how are you? 🤗

I'm so sorry for the delayed response, I've only just come across your post!

I've asked our student rep, Jiya, who studies Forensic and Medical Sciences, to pop you a message on here in regards to your enquiry and see whether she can help

Thanks,

Becky

Hi,

Thank you for your question!

Yes, the University of Bradford does offer a Forensic Medical Science Course (3 years without placement or 4 years with a placement year). These are the modules for the courses:
Year 1:
Core
Optional

Final year or fourth year depending on whether you pick the 4 year course or 3 year course:
Core

If you want to be a forensic pathologist, you do need to go to medical school as Forensic Pathologists must qualify as doctors.

I'm unsure if we have an FMS masters degree but we do have an undergraduate course you can apply to!

Hope this helps!
