Do these A level options go well/ opinion on the individual subjects

I would like to do maths econ and psychology for A level, do these options go well together??
For context, I wish to do something business related in the future (i want to pick econ because its supposed to be more broad..?) also love GSCE maths, and as for psychology im assuming it goes well incase i want to do marketing and know how people think to have the best marketing strategies and overall the subject seems interesting

Econ with Maths makes good sense, and as Psych involves data/stats, Maths will be useful.

Have a look at the sort of Uni courses that might interest you and check the 'entry requirements' section for A level and GCSE requirements.

Looks like a good and well thought out combination provided that you think you’ll enjoy all these subjects, can do well at them and they’ll allow you to do what you would like after sixth form. If you’re interested in business then consider if degrees like econ or finance might appeal in the future, if so then fm would broaden your options. However if you dont think fm would suit you or your interests are more toward business than the econ/finance side of things then consider whether it’s worth the extra work 🙂
Hello there!

Your A-level combination of Maths, Economics, and Psychology is a strong and versatile mix, especially for someone interested in a business-related career.
Maths provides essential numerical and analytical skills, making it valuable for fields like finance, data analysis, and economics.
Economics offers a broad understanding of market behavior and decision-making, which is foundational for business and management.
Psychology complements these subjects by giving insights into human behavior, decision-making, and consumer habits, which are particularly useful for marketing and leadership roles.

Together, these subjects create a balanced blend of analytical, numerical, and behavioral skills, preparing you well for university degrees in Business, Marketing, or Economics.
For example, programs like [BA (Hons) Marketing - https://www.coventry.ac.uk/course-structure/ug/fbl/marketing-ba-hons/
or
BA Business Management: https://www.coventry.ac.uk/course-structure/ug/fbl/business-management-ba-hons/
at Coventry University align perfectly with your aspirations.

This combination keeps your options open and equips you with the tools to succeed in a range of business-focused careers.

I hope this helps!
Best of luck with your studies! 😊

Kind regards,
Reka - Coventry University Student Ambassador

If you're planning on doing something business related i suggest you replace psychology with something like business studies or accounting as alevel psychology isn't something that will make you look good unis where you want a degree or if you want a job in something business related. Alevels psychology isn't going to teach you much about how to market stuff to others (especially compared to business studies and similar subjects) as it's far more sciencey and requires a good knowledge of biology and a even some chemistry. It's also quite difficult. If you're still interested in doing a social science to help you understand others and how to appeal to them in marketing I'd suggest doing business studies or even accounting and then taking sociology as a fourth subject as it has less bio/chem stuff compared to psychology, will help you learn how to market to others and focuses more on that area of human behavior compared to psychology which mainly includes stuff about mental issues and other such topics, is also quite interesting and also quite easier compared to psychology so even if you take it as a fourth subject the workload won't be difficult to manage or make you overwork yourself.

Not sure if that’s a good idea to suggest that the OP should replace psychology with business as I’ve heard that some universities don’t like it when you take business and economics together unless I’m wrong and this may no longer be the case.

Id actually disagree about taking businesses/accounting over psych. Taking business or accounting in combination with economics could put you as a disadvantage as unis sometimes consider them too closely related.
You do make some good points about sociology though, but taking 4 a levels is unnecessary unless one of them is fm (which is a good idea if the OP is able to handle it and wants to go into economics as a field).

Hi @layss

I think these choices go really well especially for business in the future. At Southampton university there are only grade requirements for most of the Business courses, I will link the site below so you can check it out. I took Psychology History and Biology A level and have an undergrade degree in Archaeology and am now studying a masters also. I got into university through clearing and none of my a levels where geared for the career route I took. Now I know this is not exactly the same situation but unless you know there are specific requirements for the subject you want I suggest taking subjects you enjoy as you are more likely to do better in those than a subject you do not enjoy as much. It can be a little daunting picking your subjects as it can feel like your are deciding your future, but I found in my experience there are always ways to get to where you need and want to go. If you really want some guidance talk to your teachers or even reach out to admission departments to see if they can help you further.
I hope that helps a bit.
