Loughborough architecture interview

I just got an email about a portfolio from Loughborough university and they said in the email that after the portfolio there would be an interview.

Does everybody get an interview? Or what are the chances I would have to attend one? Since I’ve never done a actual interview before I would like to get prepared if the chances of me having to go is high.🙏

not every one gets an interview, in fact most are rejected upon portfolio submission. if you have a strong personal statement, meet or exceed the grade requirements and have a decent portfolio- your chances of getting an interview are fair. Start preparing for it now as you don’t get much time between them telling you about your interview and the actual interview date.

Hi there, I also just got an email about a portfolio submission and interview. However when I read through the portfolio guidance they had included it seemed that an interview will usually take place after your portfolio is submitted.

On a side note how are you getting along with your portfolio cause I’ve barely started and I need to submit in 2 weeks and have no idea where to start

Well mines going ok so far because I took photography and product design so I put few works from there in but now I’m going through a problem because now I feel like there’s too much photography? Most universities want 10-15 works.(mostly being models and art)

So far I have 4 different photography projects in there (2 images for each)
I’ve done 2/5 drawings (I have to draw a bit for this week)
One model(including sketches).

What about you? (What have you done so far work wise)

I do one creative subject (3d design), however I don't think I have produced my "BEST" work but frankly I don't have a lot of choices as I never have time to pursue personal projects outside of school. So far I only have a few things to include:

1.

A clay model I made in year 12, including the design sheet for it

2.

A paper lamp (not the greatest either)

3.

And then I wanted to include some stuff from GCSE cause i had a few paintings and drawings exploring different media but I'm not sure about that either cause I cant seem to get a hold of my sketchbooks from GCSE period

4.

I'm also trying to complete at least 3 urban sketches using different mediums. Apart from these I have no idea what else to do.

The main message is that I am extremely worried and stressed lol.

Could I ask what your portfolio consisted of and how many pieces you submitted, as well as how you curated the layout.

yeah of course, so I included a coverage in which I spoke about my sketchbook which had 2 component one was architecture and other was based on a exam theme so I created a ppt then converted into pdf
10 slides 1slide was the coverage 2 slide was observational drawings of architecture around 4 double pages of just pencil biro skills and speed drawings
3rd slide was artist transcription and my response to the artist which also included collage
4th slide is on experimentation using different mediums I did sketches over a newspaper print and tissue paper splattered collars on tissue paper to create texture then sis some architectural drawings
5th slide is basic digital skills basically experimentation of colours which photoshop using my sketches
6th slide observational drawing from 2nd component
7th is just experimentation with different medium in the 2nd component
8th is the exam piece which was a self portrait this slide had my idea and sketches developing the parts like facial features
9th was the process of the background and composition of the final piece
10th was the actual finished final piece and my idea and thought behind it
lemme know if u have more questions I did not have any 3d model and they don't need architectural drawings maybe like few but they want to see ur artistic skills so anything ur interested in and u can talk about when ur attending the interview so don't worry

Tbh same I was hesitant about adding a GCSE art piece in there cuz it’s old but did it anyway because I don’t have much stuff although I also had a hard time finding my gcse stuff again cuz I think my teachers threw it away (good think I still have a picture of my 10 hour exam piece on my phone ) because I ended up adding that in there. they want mostly art related stuff at the moment I have 7 pages of completed work and I have to do 3 more before my deadline in 10 days 🥲.

I’m working on a clay model of a hand (including a canvas painting under it)
A study of a random building I took in London (apparently you can’t use internet sources as reference) and probably a marker study of a random object like cut fruit or smth

I’ve seen a lot of portfolio examples (particularly Manchester) what I see quite often are

-still life (like a vase or a bowl of fruit)
-at least one portrait of someone
-figure drawings
-a lot of building (this is what I’m sprites about because I’ve only got two drawings of buildings)
-occasionally photography

I mean u can do a quick speed drawings tbh they don't really see if u copied from online because I did some sketches using Pinterest and just added colour to change the look with watercolour
u can also use biro and create some line drawings that would be quick and it can be small in size like a5 does not have to to big and u can speak about how long it took u to produce it
they just wanna know if u can do a lot of observational sketches and also if u can experiment with different mediums
when I did the interview all they asked me was how I created some pieces and what was my inspiration behind it and also why ur internet in that specific uni
what other uni have u applied to other than loughborough

fair enoughh I am trying to look if there are examples of portfolio people submitted to Liverpool because they are asking for a 2d sketch and a 50 word explanation on why u chose that building its seems long😭😭😭

so transcriptions are basically copies u made by looking at an artists style and u trying to implement that style in to your own sketches and I did A level art so 1st component is like the common theme for everyone for the 2 yrs and the 2nd component is the theme from the exam booklet like they give 5 or 6 titles and u choose one and u develop ur sketchbook and do the final piece which is like 15 hours I think. I choose play and I my idea behind it was to to playing with materials facial expression colours etc
