Ways to balance your studies this christmas break

Hi guys 😊,

Christmas break is a great time to give your mind a rest and take a step back from your studies. However it's important to still get prepared for upcoming exams, or get those semester 1 assignments completed! ❄️

Here are some recommendations I have to balance your break and your studies:

1) Make a list of realistic goals - Having goals to work towards can help make your studies more planned. By having a clear direction, you can plan your time for effectively. 📑

2) Make a study plan - Depending on your style of learning, you may choose to dedicate full days to getting work completed. However if this isn't your style, try doing a "little but often", as this can help you make quick progress, yet it avoids burnout. 📚

3) Study environment - Finding the right study environment can massively increase your productivity. This could be a quiet corner of your house, a local library or even a café. I recommend experimenting by trying different locations and seeing what works best for you. ☕️

4) Be flexible - During the holiday period, you can't predict your every move. Whether its a spontaneous meet up, last minute Christmas shopping or travelling home, make sure to give yourself some flexibility in your studies so it fits around your life. 🌎

5)Take a break - Most importantly, this time of year is a chance to rest your brain. By planning effectively, you can avoid overwhelming yourself. ☃️

Enjoy yourself! I wish you all a lovely Christmas and I hope this is useful,

Hi there!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful tips!
I just wanted to add one thing that I find particularly useful - dedicate some time for reading additional materials provided by academics. I don't usually have much time to dive deeper into some specific topics, but Christmas Break is a perfect opportunity to dedicate 20-40 minutes per day for some additional reading.

Once again, thank you for tips

Hi

Some great ideas here, I totally agree with them!

I think that it is really important, to take a break from studies and just relax. However, I think that it is important to have a good balance of both, this is because we can use this time to get prepared for any upcoming exams or assignments that might be taking place during the next semester.

Please add any more tips below.

I hope this helps,

Hi there,

These are fantastic tips!

It can be difficult, but having that balance of completing academic tasks and making sure you are taking a break is so important. I use a planner regularly, which is especially helpful over the winter break! I follow the 'little but often' rule, and also try to sprinkle in some fun activities in-between.

I'm also going to spend some time over this break to explore some local study spots - this is a great suggestion. 🙂

Hi there,
These are some really good ideas. It can be difficult to get the balance between studying and relaxing over the festive period. I find it best to study little and often over the break, of about an hour a day, so it doesn't feel like a whole day is taken up studying. Also, I find it important to take days off studying to spend time with family and friends and relax over the break to avoid burnout and make study time more productive.
Thank you for the tips, and enjoy the christmas break!
