How do mpharm students get a job at a pharmacy?!?

I've been trying to apply to pharmacy dispensing jobs online but with no luck. I'm a 2nd Yr MPharm student and heard that was enough to get into one.

I also know people in my year who are working at pharmacies and have done so for a long time. Whenever I ask how did they get in, it's always that they either knew someone from the pharmacy who got them in or they got "lucky" when they applied online. Which doesn't really help me.

I applied to some locum agencies to locum dispense but they ask have I got much dispensing experience, I say all I got was some community placements from uni and a voluntary 2 week work experience at a local pharmacy. They then tell me it's not enough and I need atleast 6 months. But again I heard of mpharm students that do locum dispensing and I wonder well how did they get there experience.

I find the whole thing frustrating because I'm trying really hard to get a job in a pharmacy. Even if it was a part time trainee position I don't mind as long as I can move up and get the experience.

Could you guys give me some useful pointers or tips?

i’ve heard the same! everyone who’s got a job in pharmacy was either through someone they knew or because the area they live in has barely any pharmacies.

boots do a trainee dispenser job which is good for mpharm students but not all branches offer it

I’ve heard the same about experience- make sure you at least do voluntary work whilst you’re trying to find a job. That way, by the time you find a job you’ll have more experience to tell them about
