Department Panel Interview at Oxford University (2024)

Hello,
I have just received an email inviting me to a departmental interview. I am so nervous.
1. Does anyone have any advice?
2. Has anyone done one of these?
3. How should I prepare?
I really appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks

Jumping on this thread to ask - my son didn’t get a departmental interview for Music. Interview schedule page suggests you’d normally get one in addition to the college interviews. Wonder if this is a bad sign?

Thanks for your reply. I hope more people come on this thread 😊
How did he say the College interviews went?
It is so difficult to tell. It could be that a decision has already been made from his performance in his two interviews but who knows? It is just so stressful, isn't it?

He thought they went well, and he came out of them feeling really excited about studying music at Oxford for the first time, which was beautiful to see. Good luck with your departmental!

It is confusing as it states decisions will be sent re departmental interviews after the first two interviews so if you don't get one does that mean you are unsuccessful?

Does this relate to music? FWIW, a few weeks ago I did an exhaustive search of reports of not getting a departmental interview (since they came in) and found 2 or 3 cases where rejection followed and 1 case where acceptance followed! No point worrying about it now anyway.

Same for my son. Wishing you the absolute best of luck for Tuesday. If you feel like you managed to communicate who you are as a musician at the interviews then the decision will be a great stepping stone towards your future whichever way it goes.
