Cardiff uni gcse grades

Hello, I am in year twelve and just looking ahead at possible degrees and universities I may do in the future. Ive come across Cardiff university and its seems pretty interesting and meets a few personal preferences. I do have one question though. Some of the degrees I seem to be attracted to have attainable A levels grades but I am one gcse grade off in the specific requirements. In the past has Cardiff or any Universities been lenient with gcse grades?

I don't know about Cardiff specifically, but GCSE grade requirements are generally not flexible - especially Maths and English. If you want to apply for a course where you don't meet the GCSE entry requirements, it would be wise to retake that GCSE this summer.

Hi there,

Im glad to hear you are looking at Cardiff and its checking lot of your boxes. Im a student here and I love it.
Congratulations of meeting the A-Level requirements. I am not the admissions team myself, but I would say if you are only one level below, you might be ok, however if it is in English or Maths, then I am less sure, as it also will depend on the course you are applying for, and the A-Level subjects you are taking now. For example, if you got a 3 in English at GCSE but now you are doing English and are predicted higher, you should be ok.
I would suggest contacting the admissions team if you are worried though. Here is the link where you can easily contact them, https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/help/contact-us/applicants.

Hope this helps and any other questions please let me know!

Thanks a lot for the reply, for example the course could be business management and marketing which requires a 6 in maths yet I only have a 5.

Hi there,

Unfortunately yes, as for 2025 entry, the course page says that:

You must have or be working towards:- English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements.- GCSE Maths grade B/6 or equivalent qualification (subject and grade). If you are taking A-level Maths (or equivalent), GCSE Maths is not required. Core Maths may also be accepted in place of GCSE Maths.

It is worth contacting the above link sent by Grace, to ask about your specific situation. The course only really asks this so they know that students can cope with the level of maths in the course

Hi any rep please Cardiff gave sent out interview offers and rejections for dentistry but I have heard nothing. Do admissions just not respond to some applicants?

Hiya!

Sorry that you haven't heard any responses yet - but the admissions team will definitely respond to you! There's a lot of interviews to review sometimes and it does take a bit of time to get to everyone. That's why some people might hear from them sooner. Were you informed at your interview when you would expect to hear back from them?
