Chemical engineering Vs Pharmacy

I want to do pharmacy because I find it more interesting and I enjoy chemistry. However, my dad is rather hell bent on me doing chemical engineering. I understand that he wants the best for me but there's majority of physics and maths in chemical engineering, which I don't find interesting. He says there's "no career" in Pharmacy. Do you guys think I should apply for pharmacy or chemical engineering

There is definitely a career in pharmacy haha. I think you should pick pharmacy if that's what you want to do. Don't choose a degree just because your dad wants you to as you won't enjoy it.

The thing is he's very adamant about wanting me to do chemical engineering. He says that there won't be any needs for pharmacists in the future and there's no point of doing education if I don't do engineering

Did he say why he thinks that there won't be any need for pharmacists in the future? Praying that it's not because of AI or something 🙏

I think you should just follow your passion and go for pharmacy. What your dad is saying makes no sense really. Someone still needs to do the work for online pharmacies, and so many people go to pharmacies still, and the number is probably going to rise as pharmacists become more broad in what they do (many pharmacists are becomng more GP-like), so I think you should go for pharmacy. In the end, it's your life and your decision, and there's not much that your dad can do about it.

I had a similar situation and ended up choosing chem eng because you can definetly work in pharmaceuticals with a chemical engineering degree, in fact is one of the common pathways after you graduate! I was also not quite sure what I wanted to do and realised that chem eng is much broader than pharmacy so it gives you more career options and some more time to think. I understand you like chemistry however chem eng is definetly more maths heady. But I think if you are very sure pharmacy is what you want to do, definetly go for it! It is also a great course to do and get a degree from. I understand parents can be pressuring but try not to take their thoughts into account, it’s your life after all  However I think if you are not very sure if that’s what you want to do, chem eng is a bit broader
