How do I convince my parents to let me move away for uni?

Hi! I live in Glasgow right now and really want to go to uni in Edinburgh. My parents are pretty against the idea of moving out and I'm not super sure what to do. My two siblings went to uni in Glasgow and stayed home but they absolutely hated it. The commute is about two hours there and back and I don't think it's a great idea. Is there anyone who has been in the same situation that can help me out?

Glasgow to Edinburgh is only 45 minutes by train, hour and ten minutes by coach.... Then depends on where you are coming from in Glasgow to add, plus the time to get to Edinburgh university building then you are not far from around two hours each way 😔😔😔- is it worth the grief if you are traveling to and from Glasgow, or are you intending to find accommodation in Edinburgh during your university terms and pop home on a Friday afternoon after finishing university and come back either late Sunday afternoon or travel direct on the Monday morning. I would look at the other universities to see if they are doing the course you want to do and perhaps apply for these instead of Glasgow university itself.

You can try and convince your parents that your university choice is Edinburgh rather than Glasgow university. Don't forget there's other universities in Glasgow you can go to ( obviously that depends on whether they doing the course you want to do).
Your parents are wanting to dictate where you are going but remember it is your choice at the end of the day where you want to go to. You need to put your case forward about your siblings hating going to Glasgow university and then make it clear that you prefer a different challenge.

Edinburgh is not that far from Glasgow compared to going to say Aberdeen or Manchester for example.

I chose to stay in Edinburgh for my degrees as it was far better staying home than wasting money on accommodation and it was my own decision to stay home 🏡 and I loved every minute of my degree ( I went to Edinburgh Napier twice) done my four years of veterinary nursing and then went back to do adult nursing and I AM over a year qualified as a NHS adult nurse.

Hopefully you can resolve it and maybe get the course you want to do at another university in the Glasgow area.

thanks I’ll definitely try this! I live like an hour away from Glasgow and then it would be like an hour on the train so I think it would be a pretty miserable commute

Glad that you enjoyed Edinburgh!! I really like the city and the uni course so I’m hoping it will be fun!
Have they given any reason why they don't want you going? If they have a good reason then by all means hear them out, but otherwise it really is your decision. At this point you're an adult.
Commuting sounds like it will be a pain.

Well in that case I think you're just going to have to put your foot down and tell them straight (kindly of course) that you're going to be moving to Edinburgh for uni.

Hi
I think the commute will be horrible for you especially if you were travelling to and from Glasgow daily. If you can manage doing it then travel back and forth, depends on what course you are doing at university can dictate the time you start daily.
I think you wont want to pay double train fare if having to come between 9.15am and I think the coach is about £11 return or free travel if you have under 22 travel bus pass.
All it would take is a severe hold up and you'll be really late for your lectures.
You have to consider all your options and it might be better just staying in Edinburgh Monday to Friday like I said previously.

Yeah exactly is a beautiful city and it's always busy throughout the year with big events as you'll know.

I'm sure you will have lots of fun with your course.
