don’t know what career path and a levels to take

Okay so I’ve just had a talk with my dad and he’s said that he’s glad to accept any career that I would like to pursue in, so luckily I don’t have to worry about him being the stereotypical ethnic dad that wants me to be a doctor. (My dad does civil engineering)

But the thing is WHAT DO I PICK AS MY CAREER PATH???

I’ve been told to do research about different fields and I have but everytime I’m introduced to a new field sector I become interested in it but at the same time I’m lowkey interested in something on the opposite end of the spectrum so then in the end I end up having this confused mindset of what to pick and if my a level options will be able to compensate it.

Firstly, I knew I wanted some sort of corporate job, totally do not want to work in a hospital or lab. I want a money making job that actually pays deservingly and a degree that I know I won’t end up struggling to find a job postgraduate. A career that I know I won’t end up hating or struggling to understand.

Looking at possible career paths, I first looked at Finance, corporate ✅, money making ✅, grades ❌. I do higher tier maths however I know maths hasn’t always been my strongest subject (i usually get 5s and 6s). Can someone who is studying finance tell me how “difficult” the maths is in there? Algebra is probably my most strongest topic in maths.

If you wondering what subjects I’m good at, I would say I score highest in is triple science and geography. However, in my year 10 mocks i achieved a 988 but this year 11 mocks I got a 776 (i genuinely don’t know what happened lol). I don’t hate science at all but I really just don’t see my self becoming a doctor, dentist, nurse etc. Can someone tell me any corporate science jobs/fields? This is because I’m considering picking subjects I’m good at.

I’m also really good at Creative iMedia (Cambridge national course) I achieve a level2 distinction* in my coursework and a M2 in the written mock. I was thinking a marketing career could go well with this however when I looked at the average salary I was like nuh-uh.

I also fell in love with data analytics, but I decided to let go of it as I figured I shouldn’t pursue in a career that’s most apprenticeship based, I barely know anything about, and requires me to learn python, excel, SQL which I haven’t done since like year 9 and hated learning.

The most recent subject I’ve found interest in is Law which I guess is crazy because I’m not really a big fan of essays and I lowkey dislike English and history( I don’t take history btw), however I feel like I’m much more interested into the legal side of it rather than writing essays. (I guess this post says otherwise lmao)

I can’t really turn to my other gcse option either which is Drama. I HATE DRAMA. End of discussion.

Anyways, I guess to summarise this whole yap I think I’m too conflicted on the pros and cons of each career path and I’ve done so much research to the point where I have so many options but I’m too scared to take risks into picking them and feeling like I’m going to end up regretting following the path.
It’s fine not to know what you want to do yet- most people dont know until theyre older and change their minds many times.
Have you considered the sustainability sector?
Also dont push yourself to make a decision about what you want to do know, just take opportunities and try new things- eventually you’ll form really strong interests which will helpfully lead to a career path.

As for a levels, pick subjects that you’re good at and really enjoy but will also keep some options open. If you’re interesting in STEM then make sure to choose two STEM based subjects (maths, fm, physics, biology, chemistry, psych, geography, environmental science etc) to keep pathways open for you.
Btw I do maths and Biology for a level so would be happy to answer any questions about either of those 🙂 (i also know about Physics a level as i was taking that but ive postponed it to start again next year)
