HL Economics vs HL Geography - which is better for Law

Choosing my IB subjects this January, and struggling between choosing my third higher. Two options for it are Econ and Geography, as an aspiring lawyer.

Any advice / experiences would be very appreciated!

If you're thinking long-term for law, I’d go with Economics. It’s all about understanding systems, markets, and decision-making, which ties into a lot of legal thinking. Geography is cool too, but it might be more niche unless you're leaning towards environmental or international law. Econ just feels like the better fit for law overall.

There are no required or preferred subjects for Law - you just need good grades.
So it makes sense to choose HL subjects that you will enjoy studying, and where you feel confident of a high grade.

Its worth looking at a range of different degree subjects in case you change your mind about Law during Sixth Form, and seeing what the IB requirements are. Remember, its still possible to decide on Law as a career even with a degree in another subject via a postgrad course or SQL - lots of useful info here : Law | Prospects.ac.uk

Where there is no specific requirement and econ and geo are seen as similar value- do geo. It’s easier and tends to provide a more holistic approach and is a more global humanity. You’ll learn econ stuff etc at uni if needed- doing it for IB won’t give you much of an advantage.

IB student here. I'm currently taking geography and applying for law. I believe it's the best option as it provides more real world case studies of various topics and consequently a more nuanced understanding of how society works, which is essential for a law student.
