The winter season finally began!

Spy x Family announced a third season in this season, that is my priority.

That won't be airing this season, unless we get a very late surprise announcement! I've not seen a release date for the third series yet.

Winter 2025 does have Sakamoto Days though, which sounds similar (slice of life / comedy about a retired hitman trying to live a peaceful family life, but who keeps getting attacked by assassins and old enemies).

Okay, I got wrong informations. When the season is aired, I begin to rewatch the anime immediately!
@AngryJellyfish

Do you know the reason why the anime Übel Blatt sounds so German? would love to know whether there are any references to Germany or not.
@AngryJellyfish

Sorry to tag you twice, you just did not mention which animes you are aiming to watch in winter and why.

It sounds like the original manga author uses a lot of German-sounding words and names in the series, but not always correctly! (according to Wikipedia, Übel Blatt is supposed to mean 'Evil Blade', but I'm sure you know more than I do about the word choice and grammar).

It begins! The first two episodes of this series aired at once, but as usual I'm only covering the first ep here.

Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte (Ameku M.D. Doctor Detective)

Doctor Ameku Takao is the vice-director of the Tenikai General Hospital that her family founded, as well as director of its Department of Investigative Pathology. Her role is to diagnose patients with complex symptoms, who other departments and hospitals failed to diagnose, and she also helps out the police with tricky cases. But while her vast medical knowledge and keen eye for detail make her a natural for these kinds of mysteries, allowing her to look beyond test results and records and at the bigger picture, her unconventional attitude puts her at odds with her boss / uncle, and also causes headaches for those who work under her.

I really enjoyed this first episode! I've always liked hospital dramas, but there aren't all that many in anime, so another one is greatly appreciated; the writing certainly isn't as good as for Kusuriya no Hitorigoto at this early stage, but the modern setting should differentiate it. The main character is styled on Sherlock Holmes, something the 1st episode title states outright; I could see her behaviour (e.g. sulking and getting mad when a colleague won't finish work early during an emergency call to go and watch Jurassic Park with her!) annoying some viewers.

Is this the sequel to the Blue Exorcist anime? I thought that the anime is finished and not ongoing.

It is a continuation. Blue Exorcist came back in winter 2024 with the Shimane Illuminati Saga, seven years after the previous Kyoto Saga. Then we had Beyond the Snow Saga in autumn 2024, and now The Blue Night Saga starting later this month. So it seems like the years of waiting for new episodes are over, the new staff and studio are adapting it very quickly!

So I am right, it is ongoing. But what is this continuation like? is it like Boruto to Naruto and a generation-spanning sequel?

No, all the series I've mentioned are direct continuations of the same story, focusing on the same characters with no time skips.

Okay, I got the picture. One of these animes I would loved to watch, but have not done yet. I have more to catch up than I thought.
Nothing from my want to watch list aired today, so I gave this a go instead:

Momentary Lily

In a world where strange machines called 'Wild Hunts' invaded and caused most of humanity to simply vanish, Kasumi Renge wanders alone with no memories... until she suddenly stumbles across five other young women. They quickly accept Renge into their group, and she repays them by turning their basic food supplies into a decent meal, cooking being one of the few things she still seems to know how to do, almost instinctively. When Wild Hunts show up to spoil their socialising, it is revealed that all six women possess weapons (known as 'Andvari'), and they prepare to do battle.

This is definitely a GoHands anime - weird angles, fast moving skybox, boob jiggling (they seem to have taken up Gainax's mantle there), lens flare at every opportunity... too much movement and visual noise for me to follow what was going on at times! Underneath the strange animation though is a fairly generic 'schoolgirls vs monsters' show. Not much else stood out, aside from the heavy metal OP, which clashed with the cutesy, colourful character designs. I'm not expecting this to actually be good, but there is potential for it to be so bad, it's good, which is a different thing entirely. Might give it a few more episodes!

Sorairo Utility

Aoba Minami's one hobby was sinking time and money into her favourite mobile game, but this comes to a dramatic halt after said game announces it's entering end of service. Rather than find a similar game, she is encouraged by her friend to find a new calling, something special to her... but none of her school's clubs feel like a good fit, so she looks further afield. Eventually, she finds and helps an old man who's suffering from back pain; his destination happens to be a local golf driving range. After seeing other people's swings, and receiving good instruction on giving it a go herself, Minami is quickly hooked.

The latest series in a recent golf anime revival! Definitely feels more grounded in reality than the last one I watched (Birdie Wing), whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen. This first ep followed a lot of usual sports anime tropes, but there's only so many different ways you can introduce someone to a new activity. Minami is a fun protagonist so far, and I liked how welcoming the other golfers were too - the dialogue is SO MUCH better than anything from Momentary Lily that I reviewed yesterday. Animation is pretty solid too, the swings looked good. Recommended!

Tasokare Hotel

A girl wakes up in front of an isolated hotel, with no memories, not even her name. Entering the building, she meets a figure with a disembodied flaming head, who claims to be the manager! He explains that the hotel exists between the worlds of the living and the dead, and all the guests that arrive there have been through a sudden and unexpected event, the outcome of which is currently unknown. They are given a room, within which are clues to who they are, and what happened to them. The rooms can even transform, providing new info when the time is right. Once guests have found enough items and recovered enough memories, they can go back to their previous lives - if they are in fact still alive.

Well this certainly has the best premise of the season. :zomg: Watching our faceless, nameless main character and other guests recover more of themselves while solving the mysteries of what led them to the hotel, I love this kind of thing. I assume it'll focus on a new guest each week, slowly revealing more about the hotel itself, it's staff, and our protagonist's fate as the series progresses. All this along with cool character designs (one straight up had a tarot card for a head for most of the ep) and a nice jazzy soundtrack! The hotel's 1920s aesthetic is the cherry on the cake, though it did clash a little with the guests' memories of present day things like social media and video streaming!
