failing an exam

I am afraid i'm gonna fail one of my exams in an optional module, what happens next? Do i have to retake the exam, do the whole module again or what. Also, do I pass a module if I fail one exam but overall score is still a pass?

For some modules on some courses at some universities you need to pass each assessment within a module. For others you only need to get a passing score in the module overall. Have you checked your course handbook to establish what rule applies to this particular module?

If it turns out that you have failed the exam, and that has caused you to fail the module, then what happens next depends on your university - as they all have different rules. Many will turn a blind eye to the failure of a small (say, 15-credit) optional module as long as your other grades are good. This process is most commonly referred to as compensation. If this doesn't apply, you'll likely have the opportunity to retake the exam during the summer.

Which uni are you at?

Hi there,

As DataVenia already explained - there might be different procedures in different universities. Sometimes you can retake the exam in a few months. Sometimes you have to retake it during summer. In extreme cases you might be required to retake the year.

Please, confirm it with your faculty for specific details

Take care,
Ilya

Hi

I think that once you get your results for the respective module, you will be able to see the feedback on what went well and what you could have done better next time. I think that you should use this to decide if you want to do the module again.

In terms of your question on whether it would be a pass, I would advise you to speak to your personal tutor or your module leader.

I hope this helps,
