UAL Extended Diploma and Uni

So i'm currently on my second year of my UAL Creative Media Production & Technology course in college. Last year I received a Pass for my Diploma (1 mark away from a merit). I looked up on the UAL site that a Merit for the Extended Diploma is worth 120 UCAS points and a pass is worth 72. I doubt I am going to achieve a Distinction so we will stick with this. On the UAL site it also says just the Diploma pass is worth 30 points. So does the Extended Diploma and Diploma stack together? If it did stack it would mean I need to achieve a merit for my second year or a High Pass to be accepted for Manchester Met which is the uni i want to go to most. Would I be fine if I got a pass on second year, would I still have a high chance of being accepted?

Hi, not sure if that will be helpful, but have you actually received your diploma already, or is it just a final grade for the Year 1?

I have completed another two year long UAL L3 Extended Diploma course few years ago, and it was only the final year "extended" diploma grade that counted and was received as certificate. Which in this case didn't stack together - as regular diploma was only received if you exited the course after first year.

Hi @xurrly!

We require applicants to achieve a Merit grade in their UAL Extended diplomas for entry onto our Art and Design courses, so I recommend talking to your college tutors for advice on how you can work towards achieving a Merit🙂

If you've got any questions about studying at Manchester Met, feel free to give us a shout either on here or by contacting our Course Enquiries team🙂

I'm doing an extended diploma in art and design but I also got a certificate for my first year. Would these stack or not? I'm so confused I can't find a clear answer anywhere

Hi @angelqvz!

The extended diploma would override the certificate, so you would use the total UCAS points from the extended diploma rather than from both the certificate and extended diploma if that makes sense? So if you achieved a Pass in the extended diploma your total number of UCAS points would be 72, Merit 120 and Distinction 168.

Hope that helps!

Hi @Batman0_0

We will consider your final grade only to count towards your UCAS tariff points.

If you would like to clarify, you are welcome to send in details of your qualifications to our Course Enquiries team and they will be able to advise: [email protected].

Hope this helps.
Mel 😊
