i think aston requires like 6 specific subjects having a* including i think bio and chem so that wouldnt be a good option. idk where oxford came from but if he gets a good ucat i reckon cambridge could work. birmingham also cares alot abt gcse so that wouldnt be a good option cos they want 8/9 in their point system. @cupquake if ur looking for unis then realistically dont look at unis which are heavy on gcse especially cos medicine is science based and u got 6s on them. ur gcses are better than many ppl its just the 6s in science. try getting really good in the exams cos ur gonna need it (the exams for predicted grades) try getting atleast 3 A's unless ur contexual but still try the best u can cos trust me its worth it. maybe after ur ucat and predicted grades u can think more abt unis but im j saying i dont think aston and birmingham or oxford would be good but there are many unis u can apply to with a good chance of getting an interview still so its not that deep. good luck!

its best you wait till you do the UCAT and decide from there since different medical schools have different UCAT cut offs

nah i promise thats not true bc theres many unis which j dont really care abt gcse but care more abt ucat - just pattern ucat and with that mindset ur not gonna do the best u can so please dont think like that, do ur best in ucat and get the best predicted grades u can, try getting AAA. ur not contexual are u?

its kinda abt the area u live in etc, type ur postcode on this link https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/data-and-analysis/young-participation-by-area/search-by-postcode/ and check what quintile u are - unis look more at POLAR4 i think

yeah i think thats not contexual, so just make sure u get good predicted grades and ucat. theres defo unis u can apply to as long as u decently well in those, so dont be pessimistic. fyi quntile 1 and 2 is contexual the rest arent. but yeah good luck !!!

if your parents earn under £30k a year, receive universal credit, you were eligible for free school meals/16-19 bursary and some other bits you could be able to do medicine with a foundation year (which i applied to) where the entry requirements are much lower

It would just depend on UCAT and predicted grades you meet the reqs for most unis just need to be strategic so maybe looking at choices like exeter, plymouth, qmul over oxford and aston

medicine seems close to impossible unless u truly (like actually) lock in and study hard for ur subjects. 6s in all sciences is very weak especially when ur applying to a very science based course. many med unis don't worry about gcses much but be realistic. u might think ur predicted is at a B since u hve just started the year but it could acc be much lower. dont take this in a bad way but with 6s at gcse, your subject foundation is probably not good enough. for context chemistry gcse grade boundaries to achieve a 6 for last year: AQA 90/200, OCR 107/180, Edexcel 87/200. basically u could have probably gotten half the paper wrong for this grade. So u have to be working really hard from the start of a levels in all ur subjects if u want to achieve AAB(i think this is the lowest offer for medicine). i think u should focus on grades and ur overall application and then maybe worry about where u want to apply after your year 12 end of year mocks.

try and get your predicteds to at least AAA, technically you can still apply to some schools with AAB but you’ll have a better shot with AAA
and make sure you work hard for the ucat this summer, get a good score and you should still be able to get an interview (assuming your ps is good)
people will be better placed to give you advice on which med schools to apply to once you have your official predicted grades and your ucat score. just make sure not to apply anywhere that cares a lot about gcses (the only one i can think of rn is oxford but there are others)

If you get a high ucat you can apply imperial as for gcse im pretty sure you just need a 6 in english language

hello! 🙂
it probably won't be ideal to determine where you want to go until you have done your UCAT tbh with you but you can start to rule a few out. Your gcse's seem decent (especially maths and english- which is what they mostly care about!) but it wouldn't be a good idea to apply anywhere which scores gcse's heavily. For example QUB, Leicester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Aston are not a great idea to apply to since many applicants will have grade 8s and 9s. A few med schools require seven grade 7s but I can't remember them off the top of my head so just remember to double check on websites.
In terms of predicted grades, I know people are saying 3 As but honestly just try your best. Quite a few med schools require an A star in one subject too. If you get a great UCAT then you'll have a lot of options with or without the a star but the UCAT is kind of unpredictable and not something I would recommend relying on. It probably depends on your school so make sure to ask your teachers before mocks whether predicted grades are set in stone or not. Some teachers are happy to up you a grade and others are pretty firm in their assessment 😅.

I wish you the best of luck!🍀
