I’m a little confused about my ucas application

Hi I just submitted my ucas application with my head of house and after I downloaded my read only version. It says my future qualifications are pending instead of my predicted grades she put in, is this only for my read only version and unis see my predicted or should I ask my teacher about it?

Yes, you have not yet achieved the predicted grades. The grades are not shown to you.

Yes, it will be pending for you.

They are available in the reference, which you are entitled to see if you call UCAS.

I find it really strange that we can’t just immediately see our predicted grades on our UCAS application. They are OUR predicted grades, why should unis get to see them and not us. I’d love to understand the reasoning behind it.

The reasoning is that some students and their parents put unreasonable pressure on teachers to provide overly optimistic or unrealistic predictions and references.

So the reference has always been unavailable to applicants until after the application is submitted. And the reference is where predictions are included.

Once it’s submitted to UCAS you can ring UCAS for a full copy but it isn’t released automatically.

It’s worth getting used to. When you apply for jobs you don’t see your employment references unless you make a data request to the employer.

That makes sense but in terms of predicted grades, surely all schools share them with students anyways so they can get a good idea about where is realistic to apply.
I understand the reference part though, especially seeing as students could just copy and paste it and use it for somewhere else. Although my school sent us our references.

Quite a few schools don't share them with their students

Hello @Grumtot,

There is nothing to be worried about. The future qualifications say pending because you have not yet completed these qualifications so have no official grades. Your predicted grades form a separate part of your application and like your reference, you may not be able to see these predicted grades yourself.

If you have any further questions about the UCAS application process please don't hesitate to let me know!
