LGBTQ+ At Queen Mary

I'm looking to attend Queen Mary in 2025 but I am nervous that it won't be very accepting as I'm gay.

If anyone could offer their experience and provide me with some advice that would be very helpful.
I’m a first year at QMUL, but am not part of the LGBTQ+ community.
The university has a large Muslim population both at the university and the area, but there is also a lot of non-Muslims.
The university does various months such as Islamic Heritage Month and Disability History Month. This year (not while I was at the university), they did a Pride Month (https://www.qmul.ac.uk/pride-month/).
You would also be in London that is quite LGBTQ friendly such as with the Pride March.

There is likely to be other people that have better experiences for you, but I hope this helps.

Thank you! I think my main concern is not being able to connect with people outside of the 'LGBTQ community' as I like to have a lot of different kinds of friends. Would you say generally people don't care and would be friends with me regardless?
I don’t currently have any friends that are openly part of the LGBTQ community. I don’t think there are many on my course at the moment (BA History). I don’t think people have many preconceptions. However, from what I seen of other courses in the lifts (a small % of people I know), the Muslim girls seem to keep themselves to themselves. The boys seem a lot more open and variable. I wouldn’t expect you being part of the LGBTQ community to stop you from making various friends, but I don’t have much experience.
I know there are campus tours every Tuesday (if you live in London) or you could to an Open Day (I think the next one is not till June though) to help you see what the university is like and how the people there interact.
