WJEC criminology and russel groups

I am a year 12 currently studying WJEC criminology. I take this alongside two other A levels: Law and Psychology.
I have been researching universities that will accept criminology as I know that Cambridge does not. What would be the best university for Law LLB I could apply to with two a levels and crim. I wasn't aware during applying that lots of unis wont accept crim.
Thanks

It might not be too late to junk the frankly pretty useless WJEC course and start a third A level in a rigorous subject, but you would have to work hard to catch up.

University entrance requirements are published on the university websites. Some, Cambridge included, offer guidance on choice of sixth form subjects.

unfortunately I am unable to swap it out for another A level as I missed the cut off for subject changes.

Try to negotiate a change.

You may struggle to obtain a place to read law at a competitive university with your current sixth form choices.

Hi Ilaymayzi,

Please don’t worry; this is a very common concern, and you have not made a bad choice of subjects.

You are right that Cambridge does not accept WJEC Criminology, but Cambridge is the exception rather than the rule. Many universities, including several Russell Group universities, accept Criminology when taken alongside two traditional A levels, such as Law and Psychology.

For Law LLB courses, universities mainly focus on your overall grades, your ability in essay-based subjects, GCSE English (and sometimes Maths), and the strength of your personal statement. Criminology is usually treated as a relevant social science subject and is not seen as a disadvantage.

Russell Group universities that have accepted applicants with Criminology plus two A levels for Law include Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Liverpool and Leicester. There are also excellent non-Russell Group options such as Queen Mary University of London, SOAS, City, Reading and Kent.

The most important thing now is to focus on achieving strong predicted grades and writing a strong personal statement. You still have very good law options open to you, and many successful law students did not attend Oxbridge.

Kind regards,

Faith
