overpaid maintenance loan after dropping out but wanting to apply same year

Hi so I recently dropped out of university but want to start studying with the open university in February 2025, So I need to apply this year for loans again. I was told to do a paper form and send it in but Im confused because it asks if I'm behind on my repayments, I have no clue and SFE did not tell me if I was when I tried setting up a payment plan today. I would be applying for a part time tuition fee with maintenance loan so it can be clawed back if thats a possible. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should do? I dropped out medically and am working on sending in my CPR.

Hi there,

Behind with repayments would be if you had arrears on your account due to non payment etc. OU students are only eligible for the Part Time Maintenance Loan if you're doing the course distance learning due to disability. Is this the case for yourself?

Thanks,
Claire

I would suggest this is the case for myself, I have ASD, Moderate depression with anxiety among undiagnosed ADHD, going to normal university was very overwhelming for me and made me ill, hence I dropped out. What do I do from here, I'm so worried I wont be able to get into uni again because of this loan repayment.

If you have set up a payment plan then this should be fine. You can still apply for finance for the new course and you would answer no to behind with repayments as it's overpayment which is separate to the normally repayments.

So for the section on SLC payments,Have you ever had any other loans from the Student Loans Company Ltd (SLC)?, would it be yes and then no to being behind on repayments, Or would it be no for both parts?

You have had finance before so you would say yes to this and no to behind with repayments.

Thank you, for the course end date for the previous course details, is end date the course end date or the date that I dropped out? for both.

I was just told that I most likely wont get approved for funding from SFE because of the overpayments, Is there a way I can prove and fill out my maintenance loan elligeability, get it clawed back and then be able to apply further?

Hi trb2005,

The end date is the course end date rather than when you dropped out. Having an overpayment won't affect your eligibility for future funding.
