Durham University capacity for more students?

I was curious to know what current Durham students think about the capacity for more colleges to be built to take on more students, be it undergraduates or postgraduate? In Particular, could the uni cope with more students in and around the castle and cathedral during downtime? It isn't a particularly large university estate.

Hiya,

To my knowledge there are no plans to expand colleges for capacity aside from Rushford Court (though more colleges would be quite fun! 🤗) . Although it seems like its not the case, the number of colleges + different types of accommodation does accommodate for students; lots of people tend to forget there are students who decide not to live in college or in Durham and commute. 🙂

From what l have read in recent years, two more colleges were planned. It was confirmed by the new Vice-Chancellor at the time. Durham is a relatively small university, and l can't see how they are going fit in more students. The more historical parts of the Durham estate are going to get too crowded in the summer when students want to hang out in green spaces.
