Cardiff University interview Medicine A100

Hey guys!!! So I received an interview invite from Cardiff University for medicine. But they are interviewing me with international students instead of home students. When I applied the last two years they categorised me with Home students and I received unconditional offer twice. This year they put me with international students. Home students have 270 places and international students have only 30 places. But more than 4000 home students apply each year. Would it be an advantage for to compete with international students or better to compete with home students? Which has the higher chance of getting an offer?

Hiya! Congratulations on receiving an interview offer, that's great to hear!

Just for clarification, am I right in assuming that in previous years you applied with home student fee status, but this year, they've allocated you to interviews for international students? Home students are given in-person interviews whilst international students are given online interviews as as stated on this page.

I'm unable to comment on competitiveness as a student but I would recommend emailing back and asking for clarification on whether you're being assessed as an international student, and why

I rang Cardiff university admission team. But they were unable to help. So I’m not very sure what to do. My fee status is international but I’m usually categorised as Home Student for interview purpose. But this time they categorised me as International student for interview and fees status.

I just wanted to know if I will be disadvantaged if I’m categorised as international because of the limited spaces available for international students.

Ah, I see that makes sense! I'd imagine that being processed as either a home student or international student have their own unique challenges. However, we have international student reps, some of which are also medicine students. Whilst they might not be able to say whether or not you'd be more or less disadvantaged per say, they might be able to give you their perspective on their application process? You can find them on Unibuddy, at this link here

Hope that helps,

Well done for getting an interview and best of luck. May I ask why you didn't take up the two previous unconditional offers and have reapplied 3 times?
