Student loan - Uk citizen but born and live in Spain

Hi there!
I am currently applying to university but starting to worry as to whether I will be eligible for a student loan.
I have a British passport that states “British citizen” and all my family is British, but I was born and have always lived in Spain.
Is there any way around getting home fees and student loan?
Thankyou!

Hi Jane,

So to confirm you have never lived in the UK at all? When does your course start and when do you plan to move to the UK?

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew,
I have never lived in the UK. My courses start around the 16th of September 2025 and I would be able to move there anytime before that. Probably start of September.

Hi Jane. As a UK national you would be eligible for funding under our "Right to Reside" category. This is because you are a UK national who was living in the EEA for the last 3 years. To be eligible however, you must be in the UK before the 1st of September 2025 as this is when your Academic Year would start. Thanks, David

Hi Stephen!
Two more questions.
First of all, I have received an offer but I am unsure as to where it states if they have taken me on as a home student or not, where could I find this information out?
Second, where do I start in terms of student finance?
I’m trying to get it all sorted as soon as possible!
Thankyou,
Jane

Hi Jane,

In terms of the fees, that's up to the university. They decide what fees to charge you, so we'd suggest checking this with them directly and they'll confirm this.

As for student finance, our applications will open in Spring 2025 and you can make your application then.

Thanks, Graeme
