politics mock in 3 weeks and i don’t know content 💔💔 pls help

okay before anyone says it, i know it’s my own fault. i messed around in my y12 politics classes too much, didn’t bother learning content and treated the lessons like gossip sessions about tory scandals instead of getting my work done 😭😭 my attendance was also 76% and i coincidentally missed politics a lot but never caught up on work.

i think i’m solid when it comes to my other subjects. i’m predicted an A in sociology and have been getting A*s on my last few essays. had a mini mock for philosophy last week and i was 1 mark off a B when i literally revised the wrong topic.

politics however……… i genuinely hardly know anything for component 1. my mock’s on jan 9th, and i’d genuinely be happy if i just got a D. i’m predicted a C but ik that’s probably just bcs my teachers didn’t want to predict me any lower out of pity.

i would really appreciate any advice y’all might have for how i can start revising year 12 content for politics, i’ve honestly tried but it’s all confusing and i can’t make sense of it. i’m actually doing great with the year 13 content somehow, but for the life of me i can’t wrap my head around UK politics - only US.

tysm in advance, any and all tips would be great 😭x

I would say I'm in a similar situation as you, y13, weakest a level is politics. But, I have managed to get better marks in some of my essays because of revision strategies.

First thing's first, don't dwell too much on the past, you've missed a lot of content - that's all you need to know. Now focus on what needs to be done. On a short timescale of 3 weeks, essay plans are the best thing you could spend your time on. Just go through your spec (i do edexcel) and make essay plans about what could come up on each topic. Then fill in your essay plans with examples you could use, try make them overarching, where they are applicable for more than one essay.

Another issue may arise if you don't know the content, for example, if you don't know how the UK electoral system works, you may struggle to write an essay with sufficient knowledge. Learn the BASICS. You don't have the time to know every detail of all the areas you've got a gap in knowledge in, so just focus on the summary and a good overview of the topic.

Try simplify what you need to know, covering the basics of every topic, eventually building up your foundations.

Hope this helps! And best of luck

Like I said, simplifying is your best option!

There really aren't as many questions as you think - the trick is to look at past papers or any common themes in a topic.

For example, within democracy and participation, you have the 2 main topics they could ask (democracy or participation within the UK), but you also have the methods, such as referendums, or online petitions or pressure groups.
So when you think of questions, you could:

1.

Ask ChatGPT to come up with some (this is genuinely soooo helpful)

2.

Create you own questions based on topics, such as "To what extent do referendums extend the democratic process?"

In terms of how many essay plans, the more you do, the better! But try make them overlap, so you don't have to do as many. For example, you may write an essay on "To what extent is the UK in a democratic deficit?", and use a point about how there's a decrease in young people participating in voting - which links to "To what extent is the UK in a participation crisis?" The ultimate goal is, to write many essay plans, but in the end to try make your points overlap to make your life easier. But, If you want an exact number, 5 essay plans should be sufficient, but try make them based on the bigger subtopics/components of a topic.

Also a general piece of advice - you need to be absolutely immersed in politics a level from now on. I speak from experience (as I'm sure you have experienced as well), it is sooo hard to catch up. At least do one thing everyday.

Best of luck!
