One of the A-level subjects that I do is Economics. I’m predicted an A* in this and achieved that in the end of year mock exams in Year 12.
I enjoy Economics and am good at it. My teacher is also very helpful and nice. However, she went on maternity leave two months ago and since then the teaching in Economics has been absolutely awful. We still haven’t got a replacement for her and are unlikely to do so in the near future; instead we just get random teachers supervising us and handing out assignments for us to complete without any teaching or guidance.
This really demotivates me.
On the one hand, I could technically overcome this issue by putting in extra work and teaching myself and buying a revision book and watching YouTube videos etc. But on the other hand, I don’t want to. Not because I’m lazy but because why should I?
It’s not my fault the teaching is awful - it’s the school’s fault. Why should I have to suffer and put in unnecessary extra work? And I say unnecessary because if the teaching wasn’t awful then I wouldn’t have to put in extra work. As mentioned before, I was doing well in Economics before.
Also, if my struggle with a subject was my own fault such as me not understanding a subject then I would voluntarily put in extra work or be willing to revise more. But, when it’s not my fault, why should I?
Students at other schools who are equally as good at me at Economics but have good teachers don’t have to put in unnecessary work unless they need it, so why should I? It’s not fair.
I don’t want to sound lazy because I am not. What I am is demotivated by something that isn’t my fault. So, what should I do?
