Careers in Economics / Economist - Think Tanks and smaller organisations?

You might be able to guess from the title, I am not really sure what question I am asking because this is way beyond my knowledge or experience.

Trying to help my daughter (who is currently doing BSc Economics and Politics) to understand what career options exist in the Economics domain.

From the limited knowledge we have, the role of Economist sounds the most interesting than most.

She is in UG year 2 now and considering MA / MSc Economics because securing an internship / placement has proven so incredibly competitive. In fact any large employer career route seems crazy competitive.

So I have been looking to niche employers who don't go to the job fairs etc. Both as intern / placement option and also looking beyond Undergrad - but I don't know who these folks are, where to look for them and how they recruit . . .

Hi 2nd year banking and finance student here with economics as a core module in a my degree. I’m going to reply to you in a harsh but also fair way. You said she is in 2nd year UG, and considering to do a masters? Cause of the competition in the field (I feel her stress) but haven’t you already got your answer there? Secondly, you said you don’t know nothing or very little about jobs evolved around economics, yet your own daughter is in the field herself, she will know of these roles, naturally. In my humble opinion, the only way you can help her find a “job” is talking highly of her, in a company you work for, your mates work for and so on. It’s great you support your daughter! But this is the decision she needs to make for herself, not her father. I wish your daughter good look in her search for a job, and if she does do masters (I will also for this path) hope she does well in that to.
