EPQ or Student Leader (for applying to med school)?

I am in two minds about where I should put my time, an EPQ or becoming a Student Leader. My goal is to attend medical school, so I am trying to make my application look as promising as possible, however I am unsure as to which would be the most beneficial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just done EPQ & Handed in ...enjoyed it thoroughly, the whole process is lengthy & resource intensive (esp time!!), but rewarding. Choose area that you would really find motivating, even when the going gets tough (UCAT/UCAS Application/mocks etc)
Don't know much about student leadership except STEM Leader at school, which is also enjoyable.
Good luck with ur decision.

To be honest, for medicine, most universities don't care about EPQ. It's not considered at any stage of the application. Sure, you can mention it in your PS and you might get a question about it in the interview, but other than that, i dont think it's beneficial to do an EPQ. personally, i think going for student leader is better because it'll show you're active in school and that you could potentially bring something to the community at uni and that you do things outside of just studying. Hopefully this helps, but it might be useful to get some other people's opinions on this so you're more confident in your decision!!

Hello,

Both seem like very good options and in theory you could do both, what year are you in?

I personally would say, having had both leadership responsibilities and completing an EPQ during my A Levels, that an EPQ is an extremely valuable thing to do if you are planning to come to University.

This is because an EPQ can really close the gap between A Levels and degree because it encourages independent study and research which are both essential at University. It gets you used to leading your own education rather than it being led by a teacher.

If you have any further questions please feel free to let me know!
