University of Birmingham vs. Loughborough for Chemical Engineering

I’m deciding between Birmingham (Russell Group) and Loughborough (higher-ranked) for Chemical Engineering.

Does the Russell Group prestige matter more, or does Loughborough’s ranking give it an edge? Which one has better facilities, teaching, and student life for this course?

Any advice or insights would be much appreciated!

Just looked at the QS rankings and I’ve seen that Birmingham (7th) ranks higher than Loughborough (13th) for chem Eng specifically. Also, B’ham ranks higher than Loughborough generally in the QS as well. But I don’t think any of that stuff really matters that much. B’ham’s chem Eng course is amazing compared to other RG unis of similar ranking due to the uni being so sought after by employers. They have partnerships with many companies and regularly bring them in for careers events where students can talk to leaders of these companies and potentially gain internships or even jobs through them. Many other unis don’t have connections as such. Personally I also rly enjoyed the vibe of the uni on open day, but that’s up to u. I would personally say B’ham > Loughborough though.

Have you been to both unis?

It's all good talking about rankings and "prestige" (however you measure that), but if you hate the experience (or even the town/city) then what is it worth?
