LAET Interview

So I’ve been invited to a 2 hour consultation and interview by LAET.

Are any students able to inform me of what the
day may look like?

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend any open evenings, so will the event allow me to explore any curriculum areas and meet with any curriculum specialists?

As for the interview itself, what sort of things are usually discussed?

Maths economics politics and physics. wbu??

Economics, Geography, Politics and Arabic.

I really do hope we get a chance to visit individual departments on the day, as well as subject leaders.

Also one thing is confusing me is that it says that, ‘You will be onsite for 2 hours as part of the process’, but then the time you pick is 30 minute slots?

Oh so we’re taking some of the same subjects.

Honestly me too considering the fact that we didn’t get to attend the open mornings.

That also confused me. But I presume that it means that we must arrive within that 30 minute time period but then be there for 2 hours. Have you picked a time slot yet?

Ah no I haven’t yet, currently on holiday but will consider when after I come back.

Have you considered any other well-known/competitive sixth forms in London? I’m only applying to LAET.

The only thing bothering me right now is the commute. I don’t currently live anywhere in London, but if I were to be accepted would relocate. The commute from where I plan to move would be just over an hour by having to take 2 buses, or 25-35 minutes by car if I learnt how to drive (so not too bad).

Yes. I’m applying to NCS and Brampton and already applied to LAES as well as LAET.

Same with me. Currently I live around 2 hours away from London so I would also have to relocate which should hopefully be no problem (assuming I get accepted), as it’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I would, however, suggest emailing them and telling them your situation just in case (especially if you didn’t put an address in London on your application). I did this just after finishing my application and they said thanks for letting them know so it should be fine.

If you do end up moving to where you plan, I don’t think there would be a problem with the commute, as long as you’re okay with doing that.

Oh wow okay, all the excellent ones, have you heard back from any of the others?
Which one would you say is first priority right now? I feel like the others have a reputation of slightly more academic, but of course there are several factors to consider. (For example, I really find it interesting how LAET is partnered with and connected to spurs - albeit I’m not sporty whatsoever!)

That’s a great suggestion, will try and to that shortly. Another issue would be enrolment day - I’ve heard courses are filled on a first come, first serve basis! Just means I’d have to rush after receiving results, but shouldn’t be too much of an issue hopefully since they have timings and groups based on grades, so I’ve heard.

Nope, not yet. I haven’t yet applied to NCS or Brampton as I believe that the application process opens in January.
I’d say my first priority right now is probably LAES because, it’s known to be academically strong but I also like the chill aspect of it. However, of course, I am open to going to any of the schools as they are all good. And yes, with factors to consider I am really interested in doing a degree apprenticeship after A-levels, and from what I’ve seen NCS really helps with that aspect (especially considering I want to do something in finance and they help with that a lot).

Honestly I had no idea about the first come, first serve basis. Do you know if that applies to all schools? And also would it be on the same day as results day or the day after? Also, are you planning on applying to any other schools in London? I would like a backup in case I don’t get the grades I want but can’t seem to find one that fits.

hi ill try to be helpful as a current y12 at laet but i lowk forgot like everything but still ig

its in 30 minutes iirc because there will be a group ahead of you if that makes sense. so there will be multiple groups on site at the same time but at different points of the consultation. but i remember for me at least it was exactly 2 hours

i dont remember visiting any specific departments, though there are students n some teachers so i imagine any questions would be resolved easily

if i get chosen to help out w alignment consultations i might see u there maybe

With regards to the first come first serve basis, I believe enrolment day is GCSE results day. As soon as you receive your results you have to head to the sixth form with your grades, show them and start filling up the courses. Some courses are much more competitive and their places will be taken much quicker, hence why you may need to rush.

I’m not applying to any other in London, if I don’t end up getting into LAET I’ll just attend sixth form locally and not move to London.

What I gather is that the 30 minute slot is when you aim to arrive, and from there the group with your slot remains onsite for 2 hours?

hi! c&pd from my other comment

hello! sorry its been so long i forgot most of it. i remember beforehand i prepared a bit of what i was going to say for why i wanted to do each subject and some stuff about the book i brought which theyll ask! though i would say dont prepare too much stuff because i remember i came out thinking i mightve used like the first sentence of each para i prepared? the actual interview was near the end, and they lead u into the main hall and theres like tables w a bunch of staff and you just choose an empty seat and go to that itnerviewer!
