Diversity at cardiff uni

Hi guys, I've applied for Cardiff uni for 2025 entry for law and I'm a bit worried about the diversity levels and how diverse cardiff is. As it's in my top 2 with Birmingham. Could anybody tell me how the diversity is looking at Cardiff

Hi,

I totally get the worry, when I was applying for universities I was also asking about the diversity of Cardiff as well! It was definitely something I worried about when applying and a factor that I took into consideration when applying for universities.

I'd say honestly, diversity is decent here! There's a good mix and representation of students. The Student Union is pretty good with it as well, there's loads of cultural societies here, and you can tell the uni really values the diversity here - there's often events running like the annual Go Global (a show night where societies show off performances from their culture), or the LGBT Showcase.

There's a good community of international students, and I've never really thought about it lacking in diversity, if that makes sense. The diversity outside of uni is also decent, and it shows for example on places on campus like City Road, which is basically just a long road of international restaurants and food places

Let me know if I can help answer anything else!

Hi! Could you tell me how active cardiff's isoc is and any societies you would recommend. It's one of my top choices as well for next year.

Hi there,

I agree with Fatiha, the diversity is good, and there are so many events around of all sorts. Its amazing.
I can't personally speak on the isoc, but I would highly recommend checking out our students' union page, and then find the societies you are interested in, and then they link their socials, and if you can theres no harm in stalking them on socials to see what they get up to. Equally you can look at the socials of our students' union, as they are always posting, and you can get a feel for all the things that go on!
Heres a link to our list of societies - https://www.cardiffstudents.com/activities/societies/

Hope this helps,

Hi!

Yes I used to be in the committee for ISOC so I can tell you a lot about it haha

So its probably one of the biggest ISOCs in the area, there are always loads of events going on! Whilst a lot of societies are really inclusive in that they also do non-alcoholic as well as alcoholic socials, ISOC of course does exclusively non-alcoholic socials. There's also loads of education-type events, talks and classes that they hold. In a week they hold multiple events, and hold lots of initiatives like Charity Week where its just a lot of fun events lined up to raise money for charity. I've generally found that its quite an inclusive space, no matter what level of Islam you're at - everyone there is lovely

Do you identify with a certain culture/ethnicity? If you do but aren't comfortable sharing, I recommend looking at the societies link that both Grace and I shared - there's literally something for everyone! I found it quite nice to go to events related to my ethnicity - its just a really nice way to connect and make friends.

Honestly I don't have a specific society I recommend since a lot of them are pretty active! It depends on your hobbies or interests to be honest  And as I've said, most societies host both non-alcoholic and alcoholic socials to cater to all people, so a lot of them are pretty inclusive

Yep, so there's MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) Society, and they generally tend to be quite active! I haven't had the chance to go to any of their events personally, but from friends, I hear that their events are quite nice  I know quite a few non-Arab people who go to their events, so I'd imagine its quite inclusive! They seem to have a pretty decent turn out as well, of members I mean. I'll link their SU page here, in case you wanted to have a look over their social media!
