Uni options

Hey! I’m thinking of studying international relations…
Since it’s somewhere I’m living for three years I want somewhere which is interesting enough on its own but great for the party atmosphere. In anyone’s experience which uni is best for this? Thanks

Hi @Spizzuti03,

I'm currently studying in Birmingham, in my third year of uni, and I absolutely love it here! Birmingham is such a diverse city with so much culture, there's always events going on and things to do in the city. I would say that it's a student-friendly city as well, one of the biggest selling points for me was the fact that over here I am able to live a city life, without the city costs.

I don't party all that often, but for all the times I have gone out, we certainly had amazing cannon events. My friends from other cities who have stayed over to visit me have also said that we Birmingham's night outs are pretty good, in comparison to where they stay, so I think that says something.

Hope this helps,

Almost all city unis will be like this. Any of the London ones, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds etc….
Really there are so many options, I think you need to narrow it down a bit more haha.

Hey there 😁

It’s fantastic that you’re taking the time to reflect on what’s important for your university experience. And you’re absolutely right! Three years is a significant commitment, and finding a place that aligns with your lifestyle and expectations is essential. Academics should be a top priority, so I recommend narrowing down your options to universities with well-established International Relations courses that meet your goals.

As for nightlife, many cities offer plenty of vibrant options. It might be worth thinking about what other aspects are important to you. This will help you identify a few standout places and guide your final decision.

One aspect I strongly suggest considering is the career opportunities provided by universities. Not all institutions excel in this area, and in my experience, it’s a real game changer. These days, nearly everyone can earn a degree, so what truly sets you apart in the job market is what you achieve beyond your studies. You don’t need to sacrifice your social life to do this. I certainly didn’t! By completing various training courses, a psychological internship, a student exchange in Spain, and participating in several short-term international academic trips, I’ve gained experiences that help me stand out as I prepare to graduate. I see these opportunities as invaluable, and I always encourage others to consider them when choosing a university.

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

Hello Hello!

So you're considering doing your degree somewhere in the UK. Personally, some of my favourites for city nightlife are Leeds, Manchester, and Liverpool. Now, I don't know what the university experience is like there for nightlife, but I can say that for York we do have quite a few nightclubs. It is a small city so you will quickly see what there is to see there, but it is incredibly easy to get around and there are a lot of services to offer, particularly when it comes to the Students' Union for both York St John and the University of York and how they link with other clubs. I know for us, York St John, we are a smaller university so getting to know more people is a lot easier as things are a lot more connected, and we have got a fair amount of events that go on, especially on the sports and societies side of things. Furthermore, York generally is a very old and interesting place, there are a lot of other things you can do there, especially for fun activities and shopping (if you like doing that). Worst comes to worst, if you're not keen on the nightlife here, York has got very good train links so generally speaking the train costs are cheap as well (Leeds is about £3 for a train there), so you can go for a night out wherever, and come back to a quaint and little city.

If you want something more experience-based for international relations, then London will most likely be your best bet as it has the most links worldwide. On the other hand, you will be more likely to gain experience opportunities in smaller cities compared to places like London where it is more competitive. I personally take politics and it can be a very limited field and very competitive if you are going down a political path.

But if you want to know more about York and want insight from a student perspective, do let me know and I will get back to you asap.

Hi there!

I really would suggest looking at Liverpool Hope. We have a fantastic International Relations course and are based in Liverpool a really lovely city.

Our main teaching campus is located in a suburb just outside of the university however its still a good place for people to socialise and party. Many of our students enjoy that we are not right in the city center but that its easy enough to get into the city for a fun night.

Liverpool has so much culture for everyone and is such a lively and vibrant city for students. It's also cheap and great for students. I moved to Liverpool for university from miles away and I fell in love with the city, I don't want to leave any time soon.

I will attach a link to our International Relations course here and you can have a look around our website.

I hope this helps,
