Hey, (I desperately need help)
I am considering the possibility of studying medicine at uni (UK only) I would like to know what GCSE grades are required to allow me to do that. I am a year 11 student in Wales following the WJEC specification, so my grades are in letters. So far, I have achieved three official A*s in maths, maths-numeracy and English language. I also have three A*s in chem, phys and bio which are worth 45% of my final gcse grade. I have a few questions:
1. Is there a certain amount of A*s that I need to achieve?
2. Is English lit considered and if so what grade do I need?
3. What subjects do med schools look at for gcse or is it all?
Thank you!!!
I would just like to say that I think I am taking a level maths, chem and bio.

Every university will have different GCSE requirements. These are easy to check by looking at their medicine admissions pages. Some unis place high value on GCSEs - and others will prioritise other parts of applications. Hence playing to strengths is important.
In broad terms, yes, universities consider English lit alongside English language. You are required to have maths and science GCSEs (double science is usually adequate). And would usually be expected to have at least Bs in those, sometimes higher. It doesn’t matter at all what else you choose - pick a selection that you will enjoy and that you think you will manage good grades in.
Best of luck to you.

Hey there. Advice you got so far is useful, but when it comes to the crunch most applicants for Med you would be competing will have A* in most GCSE subjects. Chem, Bio, Maths, English compulsory in my opinion at GCSE level, and at AL A* in Chem is compulsory for some medical schools such as Cam and Oxbridge. So, at GCSE do well in Chem, Bio, Maths and Eng, and do other subjects, ie; arts, history - i mean subjects easy to get A* with minimum effort at GCSE level. When Unis decide on which applicant to give an offer they will look at your GCSE to see if you had a good set of results in the first sitting because if you have had to repeat at GCSE to get good results, that means you are likely to struggle completing your med course. Getting good grades at GCSE is very important if you want to be selectedto study med. Don't under estimate.
