Student Organised Events Happening at Kingston University

Hi everyone,

This term I have been making the most of the events happening at university. At Kingston students run lots of events, especially at Knights Park where students are raising money for their projects and exhibitions. So I thought I would share with you the types of events that have happened this term and how I have found the ones I have attended.

Firstly pub quizzes! I love a good pub quiz and this term there has been two put on in the Knights Park bar. The first one was run by the 3rd year graphic design course and the second one by the illustration animation course. Both where really fun and raised money for their courses. Plus, they usually start around the happy hours, so drinks are cheap.

There have also been lots of fashion related events this term, as one of our projects (on fashion promotion and communication) was to put on an event to promote sustainability in fashion. My group put on a dye workshop where people could bring their old clothes or buy some second-hand items when they got there to dye using the natural dyes we had made. I also attended other fun events put on by other groups on my course such as a car boot sale where you got a free glass of prosecco and a swap shop where I managed to swap a jacket and some trousers for a skirt and Carhartt shorts!

I also went to a DJ event that was another graphic design fundraiser which was ‘celebrating the life of risograph A2’ printer, the dress code was all black of course. They also put on another themed event that was a pyjama party.

Graphic design and fashion design also came together to put on the annual Snowball event. A black tie event that was held in Brixton this year. There were also some other events I didn’t get chance to attend but sounded good like drink and draw.

Whenever you walk through Knights Park there is always lots happening, this term I walked by lots of bake sales, badge making, a scarf sale, book sale, posters for sale and even Christmas markets which lots of handmade gifts you could buy.

There has been lots of great student run events this term and I am excited to see what else is happening in the new year.

I hope this gives you some insight of what it is like to be based at Knights Park and the sorts of events you can attend or even host as a student here at Kingston
