UK (SFE) Student Loan - am I eligible?

Hi Student Room,

Hoping someone can please help!

I'm a British Citizen with a British Passport and all my family members are British, however I was schooled in Canada and haven't lived in the UK for the past 3 years.

I started studying at a UK University in September (BSc Business and Management) and I was offered a "Home Status" place from the university and I am paying home status fees.

When I fill out the application form, based on the information I enter, i.e. not living in the UK for the past 3 years, I get directed to " check my eligibility", but there is no information on who to contact and no email address that I can find online. I also tried calling, but I just get redirected to the website??

Can someone please help, or suggest a contact I can reach out to so I can confirm I am eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan based on me being a UK citizen and having a home status place at my University?

Thank you!

Hi Charley. What date did you leave the UK and when did you return? Thanks, David
Hi David, I haven't actually lived in the UK until I moved back in September for university...
Hi Charley, UK nationals must be an ordinarily resident in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for the 3 years immediately before the first day of the first academic year of their course for reasons other than full-time education. They must also be an ordinarily resident in England on the first day of the first academic year of their course.and settled under the terms of Immigration Act 1971 (and not subject to any restrictions on the period for which they may stay). Thanks, Stephen.
Hi Stephen, I was living in the uk just prior to my course start date, and being a British citizen, there are no restrictions on how long I can now stay in the uk. Would this make me eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan? Thanks

Hi Charley,

You'd need to be living in the UK for three years prior to the start of your course to qualify for the full funding unless your time away from the UK was a temporary one (and you have evidence of this). Does that apply to you? Thanks, Jason
