Oxford Brookes, study buddies?

Hello,

I'm a second year student at Oxford Brookes, I'm having a hard time with studying due to the lack of motivation. I need to boost my grades up by a lot and my SSC recommended finding people with similar similarities to me who loves studying and learning. No one on my course does the entire independent studying, just preparation work for upcoming classes. I find it hard to study on my own, is there anyone who'd like to become study buddies? Thanks for reaching out!

Hi oxfordbrookestu3,

I completely understand where you're coming from - I was in a similar position when I was revising for my second and third-year exams. Studying alone can be really difficult, especially when you’re looking for extra motivation.

At Oxford Brookes, there are a few ways you can connect with like-minded students who enjoy studying. Many societies hold study sessions, which can be a great way to meet others who are also looking for structured study time. When I was a committee member for the Botanical and Baking societies, we had a weekly room booked for students to use as a study room or to socialise at when we weren't using it for events. It’s worth checking out societies related to your subject or even broader academic-focused groups; the Occupational Therapy Society is hosting a few study sessions that do not require a membership to attend in the coming weeks.

You could also try booking study rooms on campus, going to the green or amber library study zones (where you're more likely to find people who want a study buddy) or finding a study partner via Student Connect.

If you’re open to it, I’d recommend talking to your classmates or flat/housemates or asking around in your course’s group chats - many students are looking for study buddies too, and this will only increase as the semester goes on.

Wishing you all the best, and I hope you find a study buddy soon! 😊
Dan
