Hi Jattwalla,

If you are able to visit Lancaster on an Open Day, then I would strongly recommend doing so!
From my personal experience (I also took a train from London to Lancaster to attend one of the Open Days a few years ago 🙂), it was my in-person visit to Lancaster that made me select the university as one of my top choices amongst other universities I applied to.
It's is a great way of getting a feel for the "vibe" and the atmosphere on campus, and deciding whether it is for you. There will be a chance to see the campus and accommodation, either through our guided tours or explore on your own. Such events are also a great opportunity to learn about your course directly from the academics and current students, ask questions about student life, talk to student admissions and finance teams, and learn more about the unique collegiate system and the societies at Lancaster.

However, travelling all the way from London is quite a commitment. You can also find a lot of information online, if it is proving to be a challenge 🙂. There are digital online tours and webinar sessions that you can book onto (the next one is in January: Campus Tours - Lancaster University) (Events - Lancaster University) as well as pre-recorded campus tours and 360 tours of the accommodation all on the university website (Lancaster University virtual tour).

Furthermore, through UniBuddy you can privately chat 1-1 with Lancaster's students (you can select a student you want to talk to - e.g. someone doing Geography, and they will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the degree or life in general). Ask a Student - Lancaster University

I hope this helps,
Polina,

Hi @Jattwalla

The Lancaster Access Programme have on campus and online events through their portal. The website ( https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/schools-and-colleges/lap/) says that travel expense support for events and fully funded residentials are available so hopefully you shouldn’t have to worry about the cost of it.

The Lancaster Access Programme team should be able to answer your questions more fully. You can email them at [email protected]

Hello @Jattwalla
I was on the access program a few years ago and studied my undergraduate degree in physical geography, and found it useful and interesting to visit campus as part of the access program, to get a feel for Lancaster as a university but also to meet other people on the program to help make some friends before the start of university. As some of the other ambassadors have mentioned, i believe there is financial support for attending the events as well. However, if you are unable to travel to some of the events, don't worry as there was lots of online events and tasks that you can do to complete the program as well.
If you have any more questions about the program or about studying geography at Lancaster, feel free to ask!

Hello Jasmine, I hope you’ve been doing well. Is it possible if you can breakdown what in person events there were?
Thanks

Hi @Jattwalla
I took part in the Lancaster access program mainly during covid, so in person activities were limited and mainly consisted of lots on interactive online activities. However, I did get to attend a taster day a month before university started which allowed me the opportunity to explore campus a bit more to get get my bearings before university started, prepare for how teaching was going to happen at university and it also gave me the opportunity to meet other students who were on the program, which was good as we then met up again during the first couple of weeks at university which was nice to see a friendly face.
I believe the current program has more in-person opportunities including a residential which can be found here What does Lancaster Access Programme involve? - Lancaster University. If you have any questions on the individual events, I would recommend emailing [email protected] for more information.
Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
