you don’t need work experience in the legal field any experience is good like retail or tutoring or volunteering and then explain in interview how those skills would be useful working as a solicitor

Law degrees are heavily academic. Work experience isn’t helpful when applying to a degree.
If you want to work in law then you can get experience alongside your degree.

Hi @daniellagrundon!

Congratulations on your decision to apply for law. 😀

Don't worry if you don't have work experience, when I completed my personal statement applying to psychology at Southampton University, I didn't have work experience either. Instead, did further reading into areas of psychology that I was interested in and added this to my personal statement! This is called super-curricular engagement. I went into my local library and picked out psychology books that interested me, and discussed my opinions of them and any critiques I had. Here is a guide I found for super-curricular engagement. You can also use sources other than books such as free online courses, podcasts, academic papers, etc.

Wishing you luck with writing your personal statement, and let me know if you have any questions!

You don’t need work experience but Springpod has some brilliant virtual mini-courses for law.

Hi Daniella,

Like Poppy mentioned, super-curricular engagement is a great way to show your passion and curiosity for a subject, and SOAS has an upcoming Law Masterclass that could be a great way to demonstrate this! The interactive session will be led by SOAS academics and introduce the key legal concepts and structures that enable us to understand the ways that law is conceived and practised in Asia and Africa today. Moreover, the Masterclass will allow participants to experience university-level discussions while building their critical thinking, public speaking and analytical skills.

You can read more about the opportunity here: SOAS Law Masterclass

I hope this helps!
