Gap year banking internships

Hi I'm looking for any banking internships to apply for during my gap year (mine starts next September but I'm conscious that I should apply months earlier to get an internship). I'm planning on doing a degree in economics and I therefore think it would be useful to do. However, I am really struggling to find any online that are for gap year students.

Can anyone give any advice on this? Is it too early and should I wait for banks to offer internships?

Whilst finding internships in finance that don't ask for you to be an undergraduate is difficult, it's not impossible.

You may find this website helpful: https://studentladder.co.uk/year-13/gap-year-placements/ Scroll to the bottom of the article to find opportunities for internships.

Penguin Random House (publishers) have a summer financial internship for anyone over the age of 18. The summer 2025 applications have closed now, but you could always apply next year for summer 2026.

If you want experience with banks, you may be best emailing local branches and asking for work experience/if they could offer you an internship. Make sure to send a CV and provide any relevant information about yourself.

Another good bet would be to look online at local charities, as they may be advertising for volunteers to help with their finances.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. 😊
