HATE A-level choice

Hi guys,

I chose A-level geography as one of my A-levels thinking I would love it and be totally great at it because I did exceedingly well at GCSE but I was very wrong.. My target is an A* and I'm working at D-E right now with the lowest commitment level because I ******* hate it so much.

However, I do quite enjoy the human/geopolitical side, and I was originally going to take A-level politics instead of this however I didn't make it in my first choice sixth form (as I missed the FM grade by 1) and the sixth form I currently go to doesn't offer politics as an A-level as it is quite a small school.

Would retaking year 12 at a different school be a bad option? The school I'd retake it in would be my original first choice, and after contacting admissions it seems like they would be willing to take me on, as I would not do FM. I'm not too bothered about being a year behind but I'm somewhat worried that I'd get judged for being a year older? Or is that probably not an issue?
I dont think it would be an issue. People in my sixth form have switched from other schools, re-took a year, resat subjects etc and i mean in age related terms its just the same as taking a gap year before uni or something.

I am going to be honest, SOME people will judge you. it is just inevitable that people will judge others but please do not let it bother you, at the end of the day you are doing the smart decision by choosing the education you want. Then again it is only 2 years and you will most likely not see those people again. Please make this decision based on your education, not social viewing.

When i was in year13, a girl from my secondary who is also y13, swapped to my sixth form and was put a year behind. People spoke about her for two weeks tops and focused on themselves. Trust me it is not that serious. Best of luck

For further context I'm already among the oldest in my year so I'd essentially be 18 whilst some people aren't even 17, which in my eyes may be a bit weird? Plus I'd also want to be reasonably happy + social when paying £20K+ in fees

Believe it or not so was that girl i was talking about previously! she was among the oldest in my year but was in the year below me! I had actually spoken to her to catch up and she was doing great, she has a good social life and in fact the people in her year find her cool.

Where i said some people spoke about her, i should’ve been clear in saying that it was the people in the year above since most of us knew her.

But that price is crazy for a sixth form

No, I'd finish this year as normal and restart Y12 in September 2025 (aka when you're supposed to start Y13).

That’s not a problem, remember that one year behind in 10 years time won’t be such a problem after all. I’m restarting Y12 this year aswell.

Good luck
