Will my GCSEs stop me from getting into uni?

Hi,

I'm currently in Year 12 and studying Lit, History, Econ and EPQ, and am wanting to study law at a top uni, and possible even apply to Oxbridge. However, I am worried that I have too few GCSEs to stand a chance.

My GCSEs results are good (999999888), however I am aware that majority of applicants have more than 9 GCSEs so I'm worried that I don't stand or a chance or shouldn't even apply in the first place.

I am aware that this sounds stupid because my results are good, but I'm worried that there aren't enough of them to be competitive when it comes to GCSEs. I know that GCSEs aren't the determining factor to get into uni, but I don't want the fact that I may have less than the average to hinder an application to a top uni.
Could anyone please let me know if I'm just being stupid and paranoid or if there's anything I can do to compensate for this?

please don't worry about your gcses, one) because they're incredibly competitive and two) if you want to study law, your lnat is usually by and large the biggest determining factor of whether you get an offer along with your predicted grades (if you're applying to unis that consider the lnat, which oxbridge definitely does)
i've had a cambridge interview and have just got an offer from kcl for law and my gcses are nowhere near as high as yours (98887777664), but i'm predicted three A*s and i'm assuming i must have done well on my lnat considering my relatively uncompetitive gcses
if you want to study law at a top uni your lnat above everything is what will get you in so focus on that and getting high predicted grades in your subjects, but i also wouldn't worry about your gcses at all considering they definitely pass the baseline requirement! and it really doesn't matter if you've got less than 10 like at all

hi. you have nine gcses if im right and at excellent grades. I took 11.5 gcses but got worse than you (only two nines, mainly sevens and a few eights and a six.) I applied to Oxbridge this year and am currently waiting post interview. My GCSEs didnt stop me from at least being interviewed, and i see no reason why yours should. If you are worried - check the specific course at Oxbridge: it should tell you what they expect at GCSE or you can email. but as you say, GCSE's are nowhere near as important as other things. they hold weight, but they are really looking for an inquiring mind, a willingness to learn and a passion for your subject. of course, you do have to be quite academic but it sounds like you are! Oxbridge will take into account: predicteds, personal statement (although this is not as important in some courses), admissions test, gcses or acheived grades and your interviews if you are offered any. hope this helps and good luck with UCAS etc!

My state school only made us take 9 GCSEs and I got pretty identical results to yours and now have a Cambridge offer. So don’t worry about it at all, we don’t control the number of gcses that our schools offer. I also know people with offers with worse gcses too, you literally got nothing lower than an 8 so well done!
