The Student Room Group

Magdalen College School (MCS) & the Perse Cambridge

Hi I've received offers from both school which I'm super happy about but then comes the part where I have to decide between the two. In terms of results & uni destinations they're pretty similar, so these are quite literally out of consideration atp. The decision would really be on the vibe of the school/teaching quality etc.
I would rly appreciate if anyone could tell me their experience in any of these schools...

So far I feel like the Perse seem to have a less stressful environment + better pastoral care, but I am also worried that I might not get as much opportunities as students who were there since year 7.
As for MCS, I heard that many new girls are from OHS, so I might encounter the same issue having to merge in circles, but there are more of us starting from the same point, though the environment seem to be much more stressful with less support

Hi I’m glad to hear that you like being in Perse! Do you mind talking more about it? Why you like it/how well do teachers teach (esp. science/maths), the vibe, do you think new comers find their place easily in there etc. That would be super helpfullll

Yes sure, the environment is academically driven so students are driven to do well and better and there is a great pastoral system for wellbeing. They have a wellbeing room where you can stay there for 40mins if you feel overwhelmed or tired. The teachers are overall amazing (from the ones I have had however every school does have a few bad teachers). And the resources are amazinng, it has lots of sports opportunities as they have 2 sports buildings, so two sets of sports halls etc. Additionally, the library is amazing, there are so many books and there is a massive area for silent study. And definitely a newcomer will feel welcome. I hope that helps!

you will have the same amount of opportunities as the ppl who have been there since year 7 so dw abt that, its just that they might've been part of that club/soc for a bit longer. Teaching quality I'm sure its great at both its just that perse has loads of opportunities for everyone and there is always something to do/ get involved with

hope that sorta helps
